Can the Ruger Bisley handle the same hot loads as a Blackhawk? I like the size of the Bisley 5.5inch barrel. I have a Ruger SRH 454/45lc and if I can get away with it I'd like to shoot my hot 45lc loads through it. The load is a 340gr bullet over 20grains of 20gr of H110. Any thoughts

Strength should be the same as the Blackhawk (Super Blackhawk)...the hammer and grip frame are the main differences. IF that load hasn't taken apart the Blackhawk, shouldn't take apart the Bisley (baring some internal flaw).

I've used heavier loads than that (by a little) in my 5.5" Bisley without any problems. Other than some black micarta grips it's bone stock. No problems at all with 340's at 1,200+ fps in my gun.

Both use the same frame. The only differences between the Bisley and the Blackhawk models is the gripframe, trigger and hammer. The cylinder is unfluted and rollengraved on the Bisley's also. that's the only differences. The SBH also uses this same frame. I'm guessing the 5.5" bbl Bisley you're referring to is those SS Acusport editions. I just got my 2nd one from Ray's Bait & Tackle. Best prices I'veseen on 'em and great service.

I hope we are not mixing terms here; You ask if the Bisley is as strong as a Blackhawk, and then say you want to shoot a load that is safe in your Super Redhawk.
Yes, the Bisley and Bisley Vaquero are as strong as the Blackhawk/ Super Blackhawk.
No, the Bisleys and Blackhawks are not as strong as the Redhawks.
Beyond that, I can’t tell you if the described load is within published maximums for a Blackhawk or Contender.

According to the new Hogdon data, at hogdon.com the cast bullet data for the 335 gas check is loaded to 23.5grs. of H110. I have personally loaded 24grs. in my blackhack, I would consider this max. It shoots very well out of my 5.5 inch blackhawk, recoil is stiff but managable and shoots sub MOA at 25yds. and the bisley will handle felt recoil a tad better than the standard blackhawk. and having shot S & W 44's for yrs. both will handle felt recoil better than any double action which to me beat the web of your hand.

To clear up confusion... I own a Ruger Super Redhawk in 454/45LC and have loaded up some hot 45lc loads for it so that I would not have to get beat up by the 454 all the time. Just this week I purchased the new Accusport Blackhawk Bisley with unfluted scrolled cylinders. I was wondering if I could use these heavier loads in the new Blackhawk.

The Bisley cylinders aren't any stronger than the standard fluted Blackhawk cylinders. The thin spots are still between the chambers, and the bolt notch.
Redhawk has a much larger diameter cylinder, which explains it's strength advantage.

I would recommend you be careful with hot loads in the Bisley. The Super Redhawk not only has a larger diameter cylinder but uses some metalurgical wizardry to handle higher pressures of the Casull cartridge. The only way to safely use high pressure .454 or .45 Colt loads in the Bisley is to have a 5 shot cylinder conversion done. Otherwise stick to loads listed for the Ruger Blackhawk in most loading manuals. A 5 shot cylinder runs about $350 with a complete custom conversion going for about $1250.

Rays Bait: 336-627-1271, as of the end of April they were asking $419 for them, that's less than I paid for mine from someone else.
