I have a Springfield 45/70 Infantry Rifle Model 1878 stamped
on breech block, Springfield and Eagel on lockplate and
U.S. on buttplate overlap. Rifle is 80% with sight elivation
slide missing, seems to have been shortened, but has
foreend cap and ramrod in place. Barrel original length
and bore okay, not razor sharp. Firing pin and block
are still intact but think it would be most unwise to fire.
Any idea as to possible value. Oh, the buttstock behind
top tank has professionaly stamped in wood 25 and under
that A. Wild guessed appreciated.
