Can a person shoot sabot rounds in a revolver?

Can the projectile pass from the cylinder to the barrel
without destroying the sabot?

I'm sure someone has tried this, and I would rather hear from
experience than to experiment with it myself and get hurt.

The next question is, would a muzzle loading sabot come
close to working in a modern smokeless firearm?
It seems that the "accelerator" loads used nylon or some
other kind of hard plastic sabot, whereas the sabots available
for muzzle loading are a much softer material.

dwebb210,

Check out this thread. It's quite interesting.

VERY interesting.

So... has anyone else experimented with this?

An interesting thread. Makes me wonder if anyone has tried 30 cal sabots with 22 cal bullets in a Ruger 30 Carb. revolver?
Don't have one, or I would consider trying it. Have shot with 22's in 30 cal sabots thrugh 30-30, 308, and 06, and found them reasonably accurate, thought mostly a novelty to try. The only thing with a carbine load that might be a problem might be the taper crimp and the sabot jumping and jamming the cylinder. Just a thought.

I did this with the blue sabots used with muzzleloaders and it would not work with smokeless powder . That was the 45cal sabot using a 38cal bullet . It worked in muzzleloader and 45/70's with 70grains of 2fg BP but not with smokeless . Knight sabots weren't invented back then . So give it a try and let us know ! JAGG

Ummm... no. I'll pass.

I figure someone has had to have tried it with success,
and can give some advice. I don't want to pave the way,
because I would be more likely to dig my grave.

So what happened when you used smokeless?
