I have a co-worker, para-medic, who is a medic in Marine reserve and is now in Iraq.
Does anyone have a list of what the guys there need from home? I thought of using my imagination but might miss sending something he could really use. Also I'm not sure if anything is off limits in this modern age. I had a friend who had a civilian 1911 mailed to him in Vietnam, guess that would never get through today.

I served as an Army helicopter pilot in Vietnam and know how nice it was to get a care package. I served with the 57th AHC in Kontum.
Even if the goodie pack contained something I didn't need it made someone's day. My mom was always trying to find a way to send cookies without breaking, never did find a way, but we ate them anyway.

God bless our troops. Keep them safe too.

When my wifes nephew was in desert storm some of the things they sent were, sun-screen, chap stick, baby wipes, cool-aid, jiffy pop pop-corn, and hard candies. The family sent this stuff all the time as "Geno" shared with his buddies. A funny note one of the things he asked for was Panty Hose, family got a little nervious, he was in the tank corp and they wrapped them around the air filters to help keep the sand out.

Baby wipes are fantastic, depending on where he is. He is in a hospital area, they have to keep pretty clean. If he is attached to some of the boys, then there is no way for him to keep reasonable clean without these things. Q-tips are pretty good as well.

The other recommendations where excellent. It may take awhile for packages tomake it, so they need to be fairly durable.

Thanks for your concern.

I just talked to a friend of mine over there, he asked for movies or TV shows on dvd or vhs. They don't get much in the way of entertainment there.

Good idea on the sunscreen and chapstick, I'm going to include that with the movies I send.

On the forbidden stuff alcohol, porn, firearms

Not to send in summer chocolate candy

Nice stuff - chips, chewy and hard candy, current reading magazines, beef jerky

I get to go back over in a few weeks myself. Hopefully will link up with my son already there.

Baby wipes, chapstick, sunscreen and Q-tips are great things to send, also consider powder Gatorade with the heat over there that would be greatly appreciated. Magizines are also a good moral booster. Good beef jerky for when the MRE's just don't cut it. While I was over there my mother sent a bunch of those individual medicine packages like the ones you can buy at gas stations, that way you could store them easier and not have to go through the chain of command just to get something for a cold or bad headache. But by far the best thing is always just letters from home, when you are away from everything and everybody just hearing about the regular day to day stuff that folks back home are doing seems exciting and takes you away from your sourronding for just a little while.

Thanks so much for whatever you send, but please don't forget prayers, they need it.

NRALife,
Sorry to hear about your mom, mine passed away last year.
She used popcorn for packing too but the cookies always broke up.
Glad you made it back safe.

My wife and I sent SURE-SHOT's son a package... actually two. One was just an assortment of paperback books and the other was a huge box of a lot of the items mentioned above. One of things not mention was just about every flavor of Crystal-Lite... something to give the water flavor. I don't know if he got the stuff or not... You kind of worry about that.

My son called and all is well with him. Says the fighting has really come to a stop in Karbala and advised he got a package from some guy in Texas and was sending out a thank you letter. My thanks to you and yours as well.
