1. Clean it.

2. Try different ammo.

3. Try different magazine.

That's probably going to cure 95% of all .22 semi-auto jams. If not - failure to feed, or failure to extract?

When I bought mine it wouldnt shoot 3 times without a jam. Then I found it had a broken extractor. I relaced it, along with some other goodies, and now it runs like a watch, havent had a single problem since.

Alot of the time it's the ammo

Try using solid point ammo. My Ruger 10-22 chokes on hollow points, but will digest solid points all day.

What Mike said!. Ruger 10-22 mags need taken apart and cleaned every once in a while. For the definitive place to go for Ruger 10-22 problems here's where to go.

My wifes 10/22 had the very same problems out of the bx. We were shooting Federal bulk ammo from Wally World and at least 1, if not 2-3 jams per mag. We have since cleaned the gun, and switched to my old teen-age years stand-by, Thunderbolt ammo. After about at least 1000 rnds now, we have yet to have a single jam, and with the better ammo, the pDogs fear her Jeep a comin' down the trail...she is just lethal, end of story.

The first 10/22 I bought Had all kinds of jamming trouble. I bought the rifle and a brick of Federal. I could not get through a magazine without at least one jam. After about 1000 rds. of various ammo, the rifle smoothed out nicely. In fact, the cheapie Federal "American Eagle" shoots almost as nice as CCI in the blue box now. Additionally, I have come into the posession of Henry's U.S Survival rifle (AR-7) The person I got it from said it was junk and didn't work. I replaced the front sight, magazine, and cleaned it. I don't think that it had ever been cleaned. The action was completely encrusted internally. It took me about a week to get it clean. It went to the range for the first time last Friday. I brought a large selection of various .22 loads. It has a definate preference for the CCI mini-mags. I had severe jamming trouble with all flavors of Remington. It also grouped right at 4" @ 50 yds. The CCi shrunk the group down to a tolerable 1 1/2". The rifle did seem to be finicky as to what I used for lube. I will play around a bit from this angle also. Not bad for a free .22 now is it. couple thing about semi .22's...

1. Try to clean it every couple hundred rounds or less. It will help. Semi .22's are probably the worst treated gun ever as far a shots fired to times cleaned.

2. Find the 40gr ammo. Physics says equal and opposite. Most, if not all .22's are blowback actions, the action needs recoil to cycle, and .22's dont have alot to spare.

3. Try some dry lube on the action rails that the breech block slides on, this usually frees up the action some allowing the spring to do its job. I use powered graphite.

4. Break them in. With semi .22's the sctions usually need alittle polishing up before they are smooth. Usually about 500-1,000 rounds gets them slicked up.

Make real sure you clean underneath the extractor, if anything gets in the notch it will cause a malfunction. You have a lot of good advice from the other guys and if everything else fails notify the factory. I have a 10/22 and many other Rugers, they are a good company and make excellent firearms. I once sent a Vaquero in .45 Colt to them to refinish, when I got the gun back it had been totally gone through and parts replaced at no cost other than the cost to refinish. Stay with it until you right.

Quality control is the problem in my view? YOU MUST DO THAT WORK because the factories don't want to anymore.

Mostly can just tear the gun down per the instructions and clean/lube it, and they run fine. That is a "good thing" too!
You get to know the gun better. The manufacturer does NOT have to perform the work.Saves you money and saves the maker money?

There was a time when a new gun was "clean" from the factory. That time is not now.
