Looked at a revolver today at the pawn shop. It was , I believe, a S&W Model 11 in 38 spl. It was blued and very worn but tight and the grips were good. 4 inch barrel. I guess by it's looks it was an everyday carry gun, probably a service revolver. They wanted $250 for it but I suspect that is negotioble. They did let me dry fire it and the trigger broke clean just like every Smith I have ever fired. I just love old used pistols.

Wasn't the Model 11 chambered in .38 S&W, not .38 Special?

I could not remember when I was looking yesterday. I had looked at a Colt Police that was 38 S&W and an H&R that was in 32 cal that had a 4 inch barrel, but the cylinder on the Smith was definitely longer and it looked like it was long enough to handle the spl.
I dont want another 38 S&W. I had looked at some Victories for a while but I got over it. Anybody sure about the Model 11?

The model 11 is in .38SW...but the sylinder should be the same length as other S&W's of that vintage...they didn't make a special frame or cylinder length, just chambered th full length cylinder for the stubby little round. Is pretty much the commercal version of the Victory. Being marked as a mod. 11 puts it at the end of the run, believe model numbers came into being in the late 1950's and by the early to middle 1960's, the Mod. 11 was dropped.
