Well boys, today my dad ordered himself a BFR in 45-70. The order's been placed and the gun's on the way to our favorite local gun shop. He asked me "should I start carrying it instead of my Kimber??" and i told him he'd neeed a backpack to conceal the thing. One of the guys in there had just bought a 45Colt/410 Bond arms derringer. He said that thing would ring your ears with 410 shells in it. He unloaded it and let me take a look at it, and now I think I might want one for a backup one of these days. (But a GLOCK 30 comes first.) Any of you BFR or S&W 500 shooters on the board have any advice on how to shoot that BFR without hitting myself on the head when it recoils???

A man's got to know his limitations, so.......maybe I'll skip the 500! Nah, here's what I'll do: Put my right foot back an extra few inches, lock my elbows, wear a glove, and concentrate. The weight of the gun will help somewhat, I'd rather shoot a 500 SW than a lightweight 44 Mag! And a 45-70 is a bit of a bear in a rifle, in a handgun it could be real interesting! The good thing is, the BFR weighs about six pounds, and you don't HAVE to shoot full power loads. Keep shooting fun, like it was meant to be!

It GOT HERE TODAY!!! And I have it on the desk with me right now!:D I can't wait to shoot it (at least once anyway.;)). Don (one of the owners of the shop where we bought it) called and left a message on our answering machine saying "You are now the proud owner of a Magnum Research BFR." I love this gun so far. It came complete with a scope mount cable lock and a one year limited warranty. I don't plan on putting a scope on it though. I like open sights on a handgun.

Gloves?
We don't need no steenking gloves. :)
At least you don't need them for the S&W.
It's rubber grips are great.
Doesn't the BFR have hard grips?
Ya know... my wife isn't a large woman.
She isn't a strong woman.
And she has shot the S&W 500 with the hottest 440grain ammo.
She won't shoot it again because it did jar her so hard.
But it didn't crack her in the head, and she didn't drop it.
A big gorilla of a guy shot my 500 a couple of weeks ago,
and said I needed better grips. Whatever. These are the
best grips I've seen.
Personally, I think I have an advantage over bigger people,
because of their inertia. I get pushed backwards, instead
of the gun telescoping my arm bones into my rib cage.
