My buddy tried to sell me a desert Eagle, it was a 2003 i think about 7 months ago for I think he wanted 400 bucks for it. Anyways he decided to pawn it. I am wondering are these guns good? I am wonderign because a few people told me $400 was too much ot pay for it.
thanks

Um... they are EXTREMELY good guns, VERY reliable and the retail for $1200-$1800... who ever told you that was off their rocker...

Ouch, what I would give to have that offer made to me.

400 bucks may sound like a bargain for such an expensive gun but I think the Eagle has more hype going for than anything else.
No rumor here, I owned one in 44 mag. It was NOT reliable. I tried every brand of hot full house loads I could find and tried the spring swap as recommended by the factory.
I have no knowledge of how reliable they have been for other folks but I expected better for a 1000 dollar pistol and I was not pleased with their factory service.
To be fair, I could have just been the unlucky buyer of a lemmon that every manufacturer builds from time to time.
I like auto pistols OK, even own a few but If I had a few bucks needin to be spent on a handgun, I'd be lookin at somethin that spins.
My old Ruger SB cost $208 new, hits pretty close to where I point it and it has NEVER jammed.

Sounds like a lemon to me. my great uncle had a .44 magnum we put around 2000 rounds through on weekends and it never jammed, only problem was a bad primer, these were all hand loads mind you. a buddy of mine up the range has a .50 AE and besides the brass hitting me in the forhead it was ok (though i only shot 2 clips worth), not wrist friendly though! the .357 i shot once and it was easy to shoot since it had almost no kick to it, never shot a .41 mag but i'd expect about the same as the .44 from it.

When I got mine, I think it was only out in 357 and 44. I don't remember when 41 came but I know the 50AE was later, in my area anyway.
I doubt I shot more than 500 rounds through mine. You may say it never got broke in but I got very disgusted with it and gave up.
I did of course try handloads but as you may guess, the first question the factory asked was "what brand of ammo are you using"? They did not recognize handloads as "reliable ammo". A list of factory ammo was included with the instruction manual and I'm pretty sure I tried them all.
At any rate, glad someone had better luck than I did.

I had the same experience as Lumberjack; my .44 Mag had constant problems. If I didn't clean it every 40 rounds or so, things would stick bad, and I even had the firing pin/spring assembly fall out of it because the retainer plate got stuck in the down position.
If you get one, look for a DE forum; there are some tweaks that help, such as making sure the magazine throat is a specific width, and don't put pressure on the magazine bottom while shooting or you'll have feed and jamming problems. I know others have had better luck, but I sold mine.

you are correct about pushing on the mag bottom, if you do that they jam, quite often too.

I think Koontzy meant a BABY Eagle, in which case $400 is indeed too much for a used one.
