Ahoy mateys.
Some hunters wear camo from head to toe with leaves sticking out of them. Others wear florescent orange. What's up with that? Does camo really help you remain unseen by game?
four footed animals allegedly cannot distinquish colors. Only varying shades of light and dark. Birds can see colors.
The camo patterns break up the outlines of the human body to blend with the flora of the area.
In all that, the most important thing to remember is no matter how well concealed, MOVEMENT is what gives away the presence of an animal, bird or human. Even a person dressed from head to toe in florecent colors could remain hidden from game if they remain as motionless as possible.

I've always heard that deer are colorblind but I dont know that for a fact . I think the key is scent control and lack of movement . But as far as turkeys camoflauge has its benefits. Just my .02$

Hunting regulations also dictate what can be worn in the field. In Maine by law, one needs to wear orange during deer firearm season, so many square inches required and needs to include an orange hat.
I have seen stuff advertized that is supposed to eliminate the UV "glow" that the deer are supposed to be able to see from the bright safety colors, while still maintaining the spectrum visable to the human eye.
Not sure how they test the color vision of a deer, but for sure, noise, movement and smell are the most important things to avoid when hunting deer.
So by all means, no beans during deer season!! :D
The makers of camo are earning big $$$'s from we hunters. I'm sure it can't hurt. But, my experience has been...if you move...the animal will flee. I'm not convinced clothes make the hunter. It's ones hunting "skills". Of course, regarding orange garb, it's the law in most states during deer gun season. For safety reasons.

It doesn't hurt, but if you're still, it ain't needed. I read a story about a predator calling expert (Gerry Blair) who went on a predator hunt dressed like Santa Claus. Got it on video too. They called in 2 javalinas, and a couple other animals i think. (I forget the whole story. I'll have to find the book i have by him that has the story in it, and post the story on this thread.) My uncle rarely wears all camo as far as i know, and he's killed lots and lots of deer and all kinds of other animals. Personally I like wearing camo. (Shoot I even wear camo to church most of the time.) I'd get a pair of all camo cowboy boots if I knew where to find them. All camo can help, but it's not necessary. Unless you're after turkeys or crows or something else with REALLY good eyes.

Forgot to add, that camo looks GREAT on guns and trucks (Yes, i said TRUCKS!!!:D). At a lot of the local gun shows, I've seen a camo Colt King Cobra. I wonder how my .45-70 BFR would look in all camo. I've also seen on the internet a stick-on GLOCK grip that was camo. I'm gonna get one as soon as i get my GLOCK 30.

I saw a truck one time with paw prints all over the windows. As if they left their dogs in their truck after they were romping thru the mud. When I pulled up to it at a light. Those paw prints were actually leaves and they had camo-ed their windows. Thought it was pretty funny. that they actually tried for that look, guess its hard to tell how it will look 50 yards away when putting it on though.

A couple weeks ago me and my dad saw a truck with a camo tool box on the bed. when we got up close, it turned out it was just a beat up and rusty green toolbox. But I have seen camo paint jobs on trucks a SUV's and they looked cool.
Here's for you GLOCK owners who like camo. Enjoy.:D

I have the rem 870 SPS super mag camo, and when I lay it down I make sure I know exactly where it is, otherwise I may never find it again. I imagine a pistola would be harder to keep track of. LOL

I put my camo pants on after I kill something, so the 'stains' won't mess up my jeans, that's the best part about camo :)
Usually the pigs can't see my filth-and-white multitone pickup truck at night..... so no need to bother there. :)
Hunting from elevated blinds in Texas, best camo would be a pattern that looks like cheap plywood with the occasional wasp nest to break up the pattern .... been looking at Cabella's but no luck so far !!!
Probably a splash of white to resemble owl droppings would be of benefit on that stand camo! :D

You boys may not believe this, but I read an article in either Outdoor Life, the NRA's American Hunter, North American Hunter, or Hunting Magazine (I can't remember which one.) that the color to wear while hunting, to be seen by people, and hidden from big game animals, is........................

................................PINK!!!!! That's right, and no I'm NOT KIDDING, the article says that pink cannot be seen by deer, but as we all know, it can readily be seen by people. Wonder what kind of looks your hunting buddies would gve you wearing pink into the hunting camp. I'll look thru my magazines and see which one it is. I'll try to post it on here. If I can find it.
Happy hunting.;)

Knew a guy in Missouri that used to run around in a pink tu-tu and a soiled red garter. Wonder if he's still out there?! :D

I concur.
Deer hunting in the 60's down here was, red & black wool shirts, jeans, and the heaviest jacket you had no matter what color it was. How did we ever kill all of those deer?
Now, I just wear drab colors, greens, browns etc. I've rattled them up to within 20 feet and as long as I don't move and am up wind of the deer. I'm OK.
I had a hunter two years ago that thought his hunt was ruined because his wife packed his Realtree pants and his Mossy Oak Shirt He looked kinda stupid but I don't think the animals cared.
I don't know how to spell it but that was a hunting fashion faux paux to him.
Having hunted a lot of dove and now geese, I think blending in while bird hunting is a little more important than deer, hogs etc.
Make up your own pattern.
Good Luck
Tom
