Hello, I am new to this forum and I am about to become a handgun owner in order to protect my family from home invasions and any other vagrant puke that wants to bring harm to my family.
However, I plan to have my weapon (I am looking at a Glock 37 [.45 G.A.P.]) kept in a gun safe, but I MUST be able to access it easily and quickly -- I cannot be fumbling with a key half asleep in the middle of the night when all I need is my gun to blow away the burgalar about to commit aggravated assult on my family.
The solution, I think, is to get a biometrically secure safe. I am referring to those that are available that scan fingerprints in order to open the safe.
Does anybody here have experience with any brand of biometrically secured safes? I am considering the Sequiam product called Biovault, and want to see if anybody has used this or any other biometric gun safe.
Thanks for your feedback.
Jad
Not so sure about the bio safes but I have a couple of these...they have a key and finger pad but you do not have to use the key. Beleive me you can do it in your sleep. Also has a tamper alarm etc...check it out in the link below:

I wouldn't trust anything that scans over a mechanical device. Both can fail, but I have yet to hear anything good about the reliability of the scanner types. There are too many things that can mess up the scanners, plain old dust and dirt are just a few. What about blood? What about scars or irregularities on your skin from working with your hands? The middle of a crisis is not the time to find out that the technology you chose is not working!

Just a thought...does the finger you scan still have to be attached/alive when you do it?

Safe's are for folks who need to use a bat for self protection!! Most home invasions you wouldn't have time to get your gun out of a safe to use it!! My guess you'd leave it unloaded as well? Add another couple of seconds to get it ready to fire !! Now your dead and they have your weapon to use on the rest of your family. Safes are like carring an unloaded weapon around for CCW totally useless!! Rant off!
I agree with most of the above: I am not ready to trust a biometric device with my life, but the finger-pad, push-button models are secure and extremely fast. Some have mounts to fit under your bed frame. You and your wife need to drill each other- wake the other at three in the morning to open the safe until they can literally “do it in their sleep”.

I understand the feeling that safes are to slow. But I feel that the safty that they offer on a day to day bases is worth it concidering that I realisticly will never use my gun in my home. I have a small safe with a loaded Glock in it right next to my head as I sleep. You can make up your own combanation so I picked a one digit combo. Sure it is slower than having it in my bed stand, but I feel better that no one will get at the gun be it friend or foe, without my knowledge. Maybe a little off topic... as far as them safes you are talking about I think the "bio" technology has not evolved enought yet to concider. I think when it come down to it simpler is better when you re taking about gear that you HAVE to trust.
