SB 1152 passed and is on the way to the Assembly. If passed, your FFL will have to submit the following if you attempt to buy a box of .22's:
Date
Your name
Your address
Your Driver's License #
Brand, type and quantity of ammo to be purchased
Your signature
Name of salesperson
Your RIGHT THUMBPRINT
This will be kept on file for two years. I guess that you thought that your old hand me down gun would remain a secret from the Gestapo. A .223 case found at a crime scene? No problem, we can see who bought ammo this year and raid his house.
All California gun owners need to write their assembly reps (NRA ILA is a good place to get their e-mail addresses) and tell them not to support this bill when it comes to the floor.
If you are not a member of the NRA, join now. Add your numbers to the total. Also, the California Rifle and Pistol Association (CRPA.org) can use your membership too.
Finally, VOTE.

Except for the thumbprint, it's just the same info that's required to buy powder. I'm not defending it, don't get me wrong, but I've gotta believe the Gestapo already has all the info they need anyway.

Sounds like California is about to become a province of Canada! Gun registration next? :(

California requires all of that (minus the thumbprint) to buy a can of powder? Holy cow. There would be some mighty insolent Alaskans if that was required here.

They would revolt here in Texas!

I just don't get it. How did so many people that think this is a good idea get together in one state and elect the fools that run it? Is it because California was the mecca of the hippie-earth mother-flower children of the sixties and early seventies? Is that the voting public in the state now? That can't be, because it hasn't been that many years ago that the people of California elected Ronald Reagan. I think all the good, right thinking, people in the state have been highjacked by aliens!

I believe that the alien visitors must have dropped off a few rejects here, and they're running for election in November... :D

What provisions are there in the law to ensure that the records will actually be destroyed after 2 years? Does it just say they will or does it actually provide for a way to pay for it to be done? If not chances are the records will not be removed or destroyed.

Since Reagan California has become a haven for millions of immigrants who have no traditions of gun ownerships or individual rights. many come from authoritarian statist societies where acquiessence to authority is the norm. The fact that so many are at least partially dependent on government largess may may it even more difficult for them to say no.
And, they're breeding and spreading!!
Local news reported the other day that 200,000 Kalifornies have moved into Arizona in the last 10 years. They bring with them their liberal politics and leanings. Heck, even our lady governor is a carpetbag Kalifornie - only moved here to run for office.

I believe that the paperwork requirement to buy powder in CA referred to here is for black powder and bp substitutes (explosives) - at least here in NCal. Local laws vary. The NRA rep said it best when he said that gunowners in most other states wouldn't comprehend the CA viewpoint.
By the way we just beat back a law to tax ammo 10 cents/bullet (and/or primers) to cover the emergency room costs for gunshot victims FOR THE THIRD TIME
US Congressman Linda Chavez (D-Somewhere in the LA area) said it best last year: "We need to protect our citizens from ex military personnel, they have been trained with firearms."

Hey NRALIFE
Years ago, as a navigator, I used to fly down to SEUS in C-130's/C-141's to drop you screamin' eagles in the swamps for "climate training". Glad to see you survived :D

Nj has a similar law to purchase handgun or any ammunition taht says hollow point on the exterior of the box. Powder is the same way. I only buy my powder and reloading supplies in states where records are not kept, and pay in cash. Where I am you already need to apply for a Firearms ID card to perchase, and the paperwork takes 3 months, in addition you will be completely fingerprinted. Greg

Thanks to the Air Force, I managed to leave the Eastern Seaboard for parts unknown (first Texas). After seeing the rest of the country (pre-"Free Speech" CA included) I decided that I never would return. However, the daughter of Baltimore's Democratic Mayor moved West and followed me to CA - Nancy Pelosi. Oh well, we used to be free. The answer is to become an activist for the things you believe in.
During the long election process in 2000, a group of Republicans organized a daily rally at a large intersection in my town (a Republican demonstration??). Waving flags, they held Bush signs aloft. We were cursed by motorists. mooned. Water bombed. A young lady wrote a letter to the local newspaper complaining that the Republicans were usurping the American Flag for their own agenda (we didn't burn it). We let people know that Republicans actually did reside in CA. The fight, just like in the East is not to let the state become a ONE PARTY STATE.
Get this - The local NRA Members Councils are organizing participation in the county 4th of July parade.
