Looking at buying a .22LR for a bit of fun now that i have a .223 for the serious work.
I have been told to go for a CZ/BRUNO Mod 2.
What would you recomend and what is your experience with a CZ Mod 2 if you have owned one or still do?
Regards,
Clayton.

I have a CZ 452 Lux and think it is the best bolt action I have ever owned. I am not familiar with the model 2. I have a Rugar 10-22 stainless with a 22 inch barrel I bought at Walmart last year and it shoots almost as well as the CZ. I like the bolt as it is better practice for hunting season as all my big game rifles are bolts. The CZ is a really nice rifle for the money. You might want to try rimfire central.com they have a wealth of info on .22 rifles

Thanks faucettb.
I think before CZ and BRUNO merged or one bought the other out BRUNO had a Mod 2 .22LR which was very popular and i think this CZ 452 has replaced the Mod 2 but is the same rifle.

I have the model 1 and I think it is even better than the later guns, but feel free to disagree with me.

Bishop,
What model .223 do you have? Reason I'm asking is why not get a similiar or same gun in .22LR as an understudy.
Also what role do you intend for the .22? Plinker, small game, varmints, target? Have heard nothing bad at all on the CZ rifles and used to collect CZ pistols.
Just reread your post and you said for fun. Then what ever you like. I've always wanted to try a lever .22.

I have a Tikka T3 Syn/Stainless .223
The .22LR will be used for plinking, small varmints and some target cos ammo is so cheap for them.

I have a Henry lever action, CZ 452 American, and Kimber Hunter. Bought the CZ before I knew about the Hunter (always wanted a Kimber). The Henry is light, smooth action, accurate (for open sights), fun, and taken more varmints than everything else I own. (It just happens to always be there when I need it) The CZ and Kimber are similar bolt actions with beautiful wood and smooth workings. The Kimber has a slightly better trigger (both are much better than the Henry), and is a little more accurate for me at the range. If I am going out looking for squirrels, however, I always take the CZ since the Kimber cost almost twice as much. CZ is plenty accurate, and it always feels like a good quality rifle. In the fun category, the Henry wins.

If you want a FUN gun, look into a ruger 10/22, they are a blast to shoot. burns ammo like the dickens if you aren't careful. don't know if you can get hi capacity mags Down Under (i don't have any yet, stupid "assult weapons" ban) but rumor has it the make em even more fun.

You have to do a lot of fast talking to own a 10-22 down here let alone a big mag for it. A semi auto .22 is a cat c, put a mag in it over 10 rounds and it becomes a cat d in the same class as semi auto centerfires.
I have tried a 50 shot 10-22 before they were banned. It takes a lot longer to fill it up than it does to empty it.

Before you make up your mind on which gun to get, you should try to get your hands on a Marlin 39A lever action. The balance and "feel" of the 39A is just unbeatable. They are extremely well made, accurate and will last a couple of lifetimes. The point is though, you've got to hold one of these in your hands to know what I'm talking about. They are a little more expensive but are well worth it.
Here is a pic of my 1897 Century Limited (basically a 39A) with Marbles Tang sight and Lyman front globe sight.

The 39A is plenty accurate as well. Here is my best group to date with this gun. The group was 5 shots at 25 Yds, measured 5/8" CTC and is about the best I can do with these old eyes and open sights.....LOL

Good luck finding the right gun for you . . . .I've found the right one for me!
