Hey Guys,
Does anyone know if there is a cast bullet provider that offers small quantities of bullets for trial use. I got an old .38-55 that I would like to try shooting but due to the various bore sizes for this caliber I don't want to be wasting money on batches of bullets only to find out they don't shoot well. Any info is appreciated. Thanks.

Northernboy, a few years ago I was in the same boat as you are. Well, maybe two boats. I was trying to see which bullets were best for both my .38-55 and .38-56 Winchesters. I had slugged both and they were very close in diameter, .380 and .3795, respectably. So, I tried a few companies to see if they would send me some samples to try. The only on that answered in the affirmative was Oregon Trail Bullet Co. They sent me samples of a few sizes of their excellent laser-cast bullets in .379, .380, and .381. Send them an e-mail at www.laser-cast.com. and make a request. They are very accommodating. :D

Try Joel Penny at Penny's Hand and Machine Casting, P.O. Box 314, Topanga, CA 90290; phone: (310) 455-1567. No e-mail address. I have used his gas checked cast lead bullets in my .38/55 with great success. He has a great variety of moulds from which to choose. His prices are quite reasonable.

Slug your bore so you'll know what size to ask for. The conventional wisdom is o.001 inch over groove diameter.
