Hello everyone...
I´m still waiting for my S&W 500 mag. But last week the Swedish general agent sade, Smith & Wesson has problems with the 500mag barrel???? He hade get my revolver but it hade some problems with barrel....so he hade to send it back.
Or can it just be problem to get a revolver from S&W, I saw a news that S&W makes only 100-150 revolvers in that model.
Do anyone know anything about what?

Is your agent saying that the problem is something physically
wrong with the gun, or that there is a problem with it violating
one of your country's laws?
Is your agent qualified to determine if your gun has a problem?
Shouldn't a problem with your gun be an issue for you to
take with S&W, instead of your agent?
Did your agent give you a receipt indicating exactly what
he did with your firearm? Where he sent it, and when?
Does he have tracking numbers?
Sounds pretty suspicious to me.
John Ross said they make only about 100 of those revolvers
a day, and they are still backlogged by 10,000 units.

I have e-mail Smith & Wesson about the problem, and if they can give me the phone number to Pro House or Pro Haus
Now it´s just wait and see.....

I'm not aware of any problem with the barrels........the early guns did have compensators that were held on by a single hex-head screw (these sometimes shot loose). Smith eventually changed this aspect of the 500 to make the compensator more rigid. My gun is one of the newer versions and has seen over 1,000 rounds of heavy 440s (without incident).

I have no gun problems with my 500, however there is a demand problem. S&W can't keep up! The 500 frame starts as a rough forging that weighs about 3 pounds. It gets put in three different machining centers which each do a bunch of operations to it before it is finished. Each of these three centers does all its operations on ten frames in an 8-hour shift. Thus, each frame has about 2 1/2 hours of machine work done on it. This does not count any of the other parts.
S&W is running three shifts a day. Current production is between 100 and 110 of the .500 revolvers a day. To date they have delivered about 17,000 500s. Their backlog right now is 10,000 of the big guns.

My 500 S&W was shipped from the factory on 05/19/04 and I am very impressed with the craftsmanship. It has all the upgrades (upgraded trigger/hammer metals, etc.) I am certain it will outlast me or my heirs, if it is not abused.

I had a defect (machining marks) inside the barrel of my S&W500 Mag Standard Model. The folks at S&W were great, they sent me a Fed Ex lable for the gun, replaced the barrel, and installed a high-viz sight free of charge. They returned the gun in two weeks.
My 500 shoots great.
