What is Cowboy Action Shooting? Cowboy Action Shooting is a shooting sport/hobby where contestants dress in western attire and shoot guns from the 1800’s. Some have related it to reenacting but with live ammunition. We split up into shooting groups called posses and shoot scenarios based on western history or our favorite western movies. Shooting is done on steel targets anywhere from 7 to 50 yards, it is not a marksman ship course, but a fun game that can be enjoyed by all level of shooters. Some come up for the fellowship others come out to compete at their highest level. But no matter what level the shooter plays at all agree that it is the fun that keeps ‘em coming back.

The club will have various types of guns so our guest can have the opportunity to try out as many different styles as possible in on day. We’ll have examples of dress all the way from the most basic to the most authentic. We look forward to you joining us for a day filled with shooting fun.

Directions to the range

From the North using I35

Heading south on the exit 1626/Onion Creek, turn right on 1626

Stay on 1626 until the 4 way stop at 967, about 8 miles

From the 290 (Dripping Springs/Oak Hills area) – I don’t go this way so check the map on our web sight www.tejascaballeros.org (http://www.tejascaballero.org/)

You’ll be linking up with 1826 either off 150, Nutty Brown, TX 45 (loop 1) or 290

Appreciate the invite!!! May try to get out there if there aren't too many domestic chores this weekend.

Hope you can make it, and if I feel good enough I see you there, but every morning a different day for me wondering what I'll feel like and how long. Just bring plenty of water to rehydrate yourself, even though we'll have water there it is sometimes more convenient to have your own cooler close by. Bring a hat and sunscreen so you won't roast your noggin either; heat index is 105 right now!
There'll be vendors there too, so if you are short on ammo or will be borrowing someones shootin' iron and need to get the righ ammo for it you'll be set. Sometimes though it's better to just buy some ahead of time in case there's a run on lead!
I can loan you something you might not have or want to try, so if you can't find another member that has an uncommitted gun, just let me know and we'll set up a time and place to meet before the shoot.
Best of luck;
Wm.

Wife reminded me that our son has a birthday party that morning. How long will the match run?

Will start at 9am and run about three hours, howqever there's no requirement that you stay the whole time and the whole family is invited, so your son might enjoy watching or even pulling the trigger on a few rounds before his birthday begins, depending on what you time schedule is. I know we are supposed to have some .22's out there for those recoil shy folks to shoot just to see what it's like, just as long as proper gun safety is observed, and that's part of the school. As always, eye and ear protection are required, so bringing you own will help us spread out the loaners a bit further. Have you ever been to the range before? If not, I can tell you approxiamtely how long it will take to get there from where you're coming from.
Tell your youngster to have a happy birthday!

Right, I should have realized this, but I am a childless bachelor who only has to remember his neice's birthday. I forget everyone elses, but the family forgives me because I'm stupid. I say whatever works.....

Sorry I couldn't make it; my back wasn't in the mood. Thanks also for correcting my meager computer skills. If you made it out there, what did you think?

Hope you can make it out again, and hopefully I will feel better by then and we can shake hands. New shooters are usually afforded loaners and there are several members who reload that would make you a good deal in case you need that for next time. Third Saturday of the month, every month.
Keep your powder dry!

Yes, it was a friendly bunch, that's for sure. Had wife and kid there and just didn't have time to stay and shoot, the offer was made of course by your club members.

Gonna need a whole new wardrobe if I take up that sport!!!!

Glad you and the family enjoyed themselves, and I hope you might join up someday. A week from Saturday is our homecoming, and the cost is $20 per person (kids may be lower, check the website), but the cost includes breakfast and lunch cooked in dutch ovens. The demonstration is part of the homecoming match so we'll only shoot 5 stages at a relaxed pace and have a good time. Hope to see you there.

Haven't heard from you as to attending anymore matches, but there are several coming up that would be worth the time to go to. This Saturday the Tejas Caballeros will have the Hays County Sheriff's office chili cook off team supplying the grub after the match. Also, we are having our annual "Whoopin' " next month. The Texican Rangers shoot on the historic Stieler ranch, and are having their annual "Shindig" the week before we have our Whoopin' event. Nice thing about the Rangers is the size of the range, and being able to also have the same match on Saturday and Sunday the same weekend. The Stieler Ranch is on Highway 87, about 9 miles northeast of Comfort and 12 miles southwest, and both clubs have excellent websites.

Great idea! Anything that promotes our gun sports in a positive light helps us all. I only hope one or two borderline anti's visits and sees there is a lot to our sports and all of it is good clean fun, even the dark side.
I live in New Hampshire so probably won't make it, just wanted to say "thanks"

Thanks, but I can't take all the credit, as several clubs around here have made it their policy to allow first time shooters free, even if you aren't SASS numbered or experienced in the art of thumb cocking. Safety briefings are sometimes longer, and new shooters are asked to show up earlier or even being paired with a club member, preferably a RO, during a regular Saturday match then they are ready to go for the follow-up/practice match the following Sunday. Plenty of fence sitters have fallen after just watching a match, and when you can get an "anti" or "why do I need to even see a gun?" type person out to watch us play cowboy on the weekend, you know that you have helped influence someone in a good way, and they are bound to tell another friend that the guns didn't start shooting people or causing crime waves for being out in the open; just instigating a rash of uncontrollable smiles and good times with friends!
