Could anyone either post a pic or provide a link to a pic of a NEF Handi-rifle with a full Mannlicher style stock?
I'm fascinated by the references other shooters have made to these & have never seen one.

The Mannlicher is traditionally seen on rifles with one-piece stocks. The NEF/ H&Rs use two piece stocks, so you’re talking about an extended forearm. I got the 2004 catalog this last weekend, and they showed no such thing from the factory, but then I’m not familiar with the threads to which you refer.
Darrel
You might try looking at the websites for custom and replacement stocks, as they might have a special extended forearm like you mention. If not, I think a custom stock dealer could make one based on the dimensions of the existing forearm and barrel length.

Well, this isn't an H&R, but here is my Ruger No.1 RSI that has the Mannlicher style or extended forearm.

Remember the full length stocks from the H&R before the last reorganization, but haven't seen them offered in this incarnation of the company. Thinbk it was between the early 70's and middle 80's (the original H&R ceased operatioins in the middle 1980's).
Don't have a specific model number...nor do I know if they carried a differnt model number or just were offered with that option for a time.
If I run across a picture on the web, will post...know I've got a listing in one of the old Guns Digests someplace.

That is a beautiful rifle. Which cal is it in?
When I have a few more $$$ I'll try & score me one just like that.
What I think I may do if I buy a new H&R is have a custom long forarm stock made up for it.

Interesting, I had a neighbor come over to the shop today with his .22 KHornet to show me some groups he'd just shot with some of our bullets.... .6's at 100 yds.

The interesting thing is, that with this thread running, his rifle is one of the mentioned Mannlicher style full-forend stocked rifles! He let me take some photos posted here.
Don't know it's origins, he obtained it this spring at a local gun show, so the rifle is new to him, but was used when he purchased it.
Interesting Stuff!

Thanks so much, Stanton. That's a lovely looking rifle. No offense, alyeska, but for a rifle that would've been probably about a third the price of your No.1 the H&R looks great. I doubt I'll be able to score one here in Oz in 308 like l'd like but I'll keep my eye out and if it comes to having a custom forearm made for a new Handi-Rifle I'll post a pic for you guys to check out.

Looks like the stock from the H&R Buffalo Classic was used, as I don't think that the wood used for the rest of their line of rifles is that pretty. Could you tell if the stocks were walnut or similar hardwood?

The stock and forearm were definitely stained hardwood. I've seen the Buffalo Classic rifle, and the stocks didn't resemble the specimines I've seen.
Oh, didn't photograph it, but the forend had a steel endcap on it.
Interesting variation.
The NEF Handi-rifles don't come with good looking wood, unless there is a new option I haven't heard about, and I think only NEF offers the additional barrel option, but please correct me if I'm wrong. The good thing about "hardwood" stocks made of something plentiful and strong but not pretty, are not difficult to fill with lead shot or something similar, if you chose one of the big-bores calibers, or a fast, accurate caliber that has enough recoil to shy away from. Even the shotgun's can start bruising your shoulder, especially if you are using 3 inch magnums, so by hollowing out the buttstock a bit and filling it with some shot, then adding a nice slip-on recoil pad, you'll be set for as long as your ammo holds out. A friend did this to his NEF 45-70, and it was by far easier on the body than mine was, which only had a slip-on recoil pad. You might see if the Buffalo classic's buttstock will mount onto the frame of your choice, then you'd be halfway there and fabricating a full length forend wouldn't be difficult or as costly as having the buttstock made. I think beside a barrel band on the front, you only have one screw for removing the forend.

Take care and enjoy the "winter" season, as here we are starting summer with record high temps one day then rain for 4. We'll be happy to send you some of our Texas Christmas trees if you're willing; these cedar trees are clogging my sinuses to much, and I want them gone!
Ah, maybe it's my old eyes, but I'm going to blame my PC for not allowing me to see that the stocks weren't walnut and just stained that way.

I really liked my NEF Survivor model in .357, as it was a real good shooter. The scope that came with it from the previous owner was crap, so I put an old Kawa 4X on it for a while and just loved how it felt and shot. But I then had to put a scope on my new 30-30, and I didn't feel like finding better open sites to replace the missing factory ones, so I sold it. Too bad for me, but so far I haven't owned or met another owner of one or more of these single shots that didn't have a good shooter.

kombi,
If you are asking about the No.1, it's in 7x57. Great rifle, light recoil, small report, well balanced, fast handling. It's about 36 inches long and weighs around 7lbs 2ozs.

Looked at a couple today at the gunshop. Both used, but like new. one in 30-06 and another in 243. Both had tasco variable scopes. Both were priced at $190.00 with the scope. Might go and pick up the 243 for my grandkids tomarrow. Let's see was a 22 hornet bull barrel set up the same. Lots of steel, little bitty hole. If anyone is interested in any of these let me know and I'll get the phone number and addres for you. They are in a Washington state store.

A few years back NEF/H&R had a few models with walnut stocks. They also would sell them individually. 2 years ago I had an ultramag 20 slug barrel fit to an H&R 20 guage and picked it up at the Gardner MA. At that time they would have sold me any of their current stock offerings.

In a recent post elswhere, I saw that there are some full length forends left at NEF. The advice is to call Jennifer at H&R, she says they still have mannlicher forends in stock $30 plus $5 shipping.

Here is a picture of my H&R Topper in .22 Hornet with it's Mannlicher stock. Bought it used from a Pawn Shop and it loves Hornady 35 grain V-max bullets.

I hope this works.Forgot to mention the rear stock is from a NEF, the original was cracked badly and I'm looking for an H&R replacement.
That extra length of forend stock just makes the rifles that much more appealing. Are these still being produced or is the supply limited to what's left at the factory?

The mannlicher forends are old stock, they found a bunch in their inventory recently, they were produced a few years back on certain models, but none current. If you want one, give H&R a call at (978) 630-8220 tomorrow am first thing, ask for Jennifer, they probably don't have many if any left. It comes with a sling stud and plastic barrel band w/set screw.

I would recommend you go to the NEF/H&R forum at Graybeard Outdoors and check in on the forum and place a WTB or WTT ad in the NEF/H&R Classified forum, also. We do a lot of stock trading for just the cost of postage!!

Much obliged for the info; I'll look into it. :D

I love the style - the Manlicher Stock. I know this is a bit late from when you posted this, but I just registered and was looking for feedback about the 45-70 Handi-Rifle.
Question: With the Manlicher stock, all that extra wood, did you notice any vibration?
I'm going to call H&R to see if they can fit a 45-70 with that same forend.

I ended up using a pressure point of refrigerator magnet material about 4" from the muzzle, it shoot at good as my eyes allow me to shoot with the WGRS and Firesight, 1½" at 100yds with the 350gr Hornady RN.

To those wondering, it's a Model 157 and was available in .30/30 and a few other calibers. I know cos I got one myself. :D Apparently, there's not very many out there b/c nearly everyone that sees mine claims to have never seen one like it...even argued with a gunshop when I took it in for a new hammer extension as to whether or not it was a factory stock.
BTW...I LOVE the grain of the wood on the one in the pics above. I paid $150 for mine @ a gunshow w/ scope base, hammer extension, and sling studs.

Mine isn't a model 157 Topper, it's a current NEF Handi-rifle, it has an SB2 frame, unlike the old Topper which used one cast frame for both shotguns and rifles. H&R won't fit barrels to them since they were made prior to 1987 by the original Harrington & Richardson which went out of business in 1986. The 157 and 158 were nice rifles as were the Shikaris, they particularly had nice low hammers, too bad NEF/H&R won't take a cue from them and modifiy their hammers so we don't have to!!

I have the NEF in the .308 surviver mod. with the synthetic stock. Factory or heavy reloads nock the crap outta me, worse than my 7mm rem mag.. But the 120grain cast linotype bullets w/gas check are the reason i bought the rifle its added another step to shooting rifles.
