FYI
This year as the hunting lease money came in and everyone signed there liability releases etc... I included a question about what caliber will you be hunting with primarily.
Out of 28 hunters, here's how it breaks down on the area up in North Texas that we lease. Shots tend to be long, 100 to 250 yards.
5 270 Win
2 30-06
1 357 Maxi Thompson Pistol
7 243 Win
4 22-250 Rem
1 7mm-08 ( me)
1 7X57
1 6.5 x 55
2 308 Win
2 25-06
1 .250-3000
1 .280 Rem
There does seem to be a shift to smaller calibers. Not one Magnum in the bunch. Mature bucks in this area will field dress from 115- 145 lbs on average and there are quit a few hogs.
This is not a statement on what calibers to use, just on what calibers are being used on this ranch. We tend to sit around the campfire and copy each other.
Anyway, I thought it was worth posting.
The pistol user is an old bowhunter friend who can't use a bow anymore because of burcitis
