View Full Version : 1894pg
I have an 1894PG in .44 mag that I am having a problem with. Almost every load (factory...I don't reload) I put through it shoots way too high. The best results I have gotten were with Remington's 275 gr. load, with the 300 gr. Federal load coming in second. Anything in the 240 gr. range is hitting about 6 inches to a foot high at 50 yds. I've got the dang rear sight adjusted to hit as low as I can...just seems a bit ridiculous to have to hold 8 inches low to put the bullet where I want it!!!! :( I don't want to scope the gun; I bought it to hunt in the thick stuff with...
Anybody else have this problem? Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!!!!

Sounds like you need to go to Midway's web page, find a taller front sight and call there 800 number. Why not get a fire sight? It will give you better visibility in low light conditions. It will probably cost you less than a box of shells.

I'd think that putting a set of calipers on the front sight, measuring it, and then calling Marlin Customer Service would be in order! I suspect that they'll have a proper height sight out to you ASAP! And at no cost to you!
Just explain the details, and give the current sight height, and they'll most likely make it right the first time around.
Let us know what you find out!
God Bless,
thanks for the info guys...I would like to put a ghost ring sight on it anyway; just kind of wondered if this was a normal thing with these guns.

If the gun is still under warrantee, I like Marshall's advice better than my first post. I hunted with a 1894 for many years. It was a very accurate rifle. If you could hold it steady, it would cut the same hole at 50 yards. And when you hit a deer, it was like a crime scene on TV, blood everywhere. I don't remember a deer running over 40 yards. Most went down right there. I do remember some hollow points shed there jackets on the rifle range, but soft points did not. I never found one in a deer to check the jacket. I kind of got off track. Go with Marshall's suggestion.

I would be contacting Marlin. If they want you to ship the rifle back you can also get reimbursed for shipping expenses from Marlin. They have very good customer service and will take care of you. I had to send my 1894FG (.41) in for a problem and they did an action job, replaced the barrel, and lever and had it back to me in about two weeks total -- slick is an understatement.

Use a roll pin or other means to raise your front sight and try some 200 or 180 gr bullets just for kicks. The lighter bullets should hit some amount lower. If you are shooting off a bag, move the front bag closer to the receiver. You may want to tinker with the barrel band screws.
