I am getting a NYC Target license in octoberish, I know i have heard from several people that its a big project to add guns to your license and what not, but i was just wondering exactly how that process went. and on average how long it takes for a) getting the permit b) adding a pistol. also... when you get the permit do you have to have a pistol s/n ready to add right there? and if not do you have to wait however long when you do add your FIRST pistol??


also is there a limit to the amount of pistols you can have on it? i plan on getting about 5 but for some reason 3 seems to be the magic number stuck in my head.

A lot of the details depends on the county you are in, as the pistol permits are issued by the county.
I can give you answers for my county (Monroe). Check with your county to be sure.
I had to buy a pistol- and it stayed at the gun store until the permit came. Then I could pick it up.
Adding pistols after that takes an hour or two- nothing to it, really.
BTW, as far as I know, there are premesis permits, and carry permits. Premesis is strictly to keep a gun in your house or place of business. Carry is a full blown concealed carry permit. I've been told that the qualifications are the same for both- so there's not much reason to get a premesis permit- if you ever want to carry anywhere- like in your car, in your pack, in your tackle box, etc, (as well as concealed on your person) you need the carry permit.
No limit that I know of to the number of pistols you can own- I've seen guys with 3 page permits to hold all the pistols- but, I've heard that some counties may have limits.
