Sounds good to me. When I travel, I take a similiar sized Bible (well, it lives in my computer/brief case wherever I am. The font is larger as it does not contain the OT.

Can you tell me more about the Homan Christian Bible as a translation? Is it more like the NIV, New Amercian Standard, Living Bible, Contemporary Bible, King James or ???

I would like to have a full Bible for my traveling. The sportmans flavor only makes it better.

I like the Holman CSB version. It reads easily, and flows nicely when you just want to relax reading God's Word. Too, the translation stays true to the meaning of the original text, as nearly as I can tell. I've compared key passages of scripture that are very critical, and some of the "newer translations" I have problems with their rendering of the text. This isn't a problem with the Holman CSB version.

I really appreciate the translation for reading, although for serious Bible study I still go to my NKJ and KJV Bibles, as that's what I'm most familiar with, and the versions I use for memorization of scripture.

If they would come out with this in a KJV original tranlated version1611 I would buy it in a heart beat. The problem I have marshall is no much of Gods word has ben lost through translation that we will eventually have no use for them because they will read like a novel.I like when the apostle paul said all scripture is spiritually inspired. He also says that for the meaning to scripture that is not understood to pray for the meaning to that text. I feel that trying to translate the word is trying to put our own spin on what God meant and it keeps us from praying to God for that close relationship that will render us more easily able to understand the word through the leadership of the Holy Spirit.What ever happened to getting down to brass tacks with God and seeking a closer walk that would enable us to better understand.The 1611 is written in such a way as that one passage may have a different meaning for me at a certian point in my life while it means something else to you at a different point in life. But with these newer translations they try to pick out a singular meaning and limit the for reaching capabilities of the original text. I say what was Good for mom and Pop and granddad and grandma is good enough for me why try to improve on God he had them write it down first and we should try to stay as true to that as possible. As you'll note in my post, I prefer the KJV or NKJ when doing serious Bible study, or memorizing scripture. I agree with you wholeheartedly on that count.

I didn't pick the translation for this Sportsman's Bible, but for a read in the field, it does read nicely, and I beleive that God's Word, regardless of translation penetrate even a stone heart, and instruct and guide. Hey, get right down to it, I can't read the original texts! I'm not a Greek or Hebrew scholar!

There's a reprint out of the "1611 KJV". I've got one and it's interesting...... You can get one from CBD in Mass.

Just remember that the KJV of 1611 was NOT an origional translation. Mostly, it was an update of the Bishops Bible.

Most of the Modern translations are a little too Dynamic for me :( . But, with a few exceptions, the modern translations do not do any great diservice to the Holy Book.
