Ruger .22/45, 5 1/4" with Ultradot Match dot sight. i shoot this gun more than all of my other guns combined, and i have a few. the little Ruger has been ultra reliable, very accurate, and many, many aftermarket parts are readily available for it.

Monty,
is that a .45 with a .22 conversion kit?

no, its a ruger MKII with composite frame and slight modification (mostly the magazine release). it's named for the grip frame with similar feel to the 1911. if you want to research a little, go over to http://www.markii.org and visit the forum there, the menue is on the left side of the home page. (check the pics out in the stickies, wow.).

I have a stainless / bull barrel / 5.5" 22/45. Great handgun, low maintenance, highly accurate!!!!
Buy a bunch of extra magazines so you can keep shooting when you are on a roll :)
Can't beat the Ruger 10/22 rifle as far as a fun gun! The aftermarket accessories available for it staggers the imagination!

Have to side with the rest...every .22RF has been fun... bolt, semi-auto, revolver, pump, lever, or single shot, "Fun" is what a .22 does best.

Bought a CZ Lux 22 long rifle a few weeks ago. Way more accurate than I can shoot. A real kick shooting squrrels at a hundred yards and hitting them as often as my heavy bbl varmit rifle. I have a Ruger MK II with a red dot. Got Clark to do his magic on it. Shoots like a rifle and probably get shot more than any of my other guns.
Think about getting a really accurate 22. They are loads of fun to shoot, you don't have to spend any time at the casting or reloading bench and ammo is dirt cheap. If you get the same type of action as the big bore rifles and pistols you hunt or target shoot with all that fun shooting carries over to your big bore hunting or target shooting.
Good luck on your quest and God Bless
Vaquero in .45LC!!!! :) But, a .22 sure would be cheaper to shoot...

Olympic Arms .45ACP PCR. Can use your pistol rounds in a neat version of the AR-15. (asssuming you have a 1911) Just wish I'd bought more hi-cap magazines for it while I could.

walther P22. Get it to where it feeds every time, and it's a *great* PPP gun.
PPP? "poppoppop" :)

MK-I Target, just wish they had larger magazines. (no ten still isn't enough). I make do with two nine shot mags., but twenty at a time would be a real blast.
Also partial to an old Rem. pump .22, Modle 121. Smooth as glass, and plenty accurate for a take-down. :D

Anything that the liberals want to ban are always fun. Got to fire a 7.62 Minigun a few weeks ago at 50 rounds a second that ROCKED!
Question is what don't you have that you have always wanted to try? Muzzleloaders, Cap and Ball, SA/DA revovlers, Auto pistols, Single Shots, Pumps, Levers, Semi Auto rifles?
I love shooting everything that I have. However my favorites are my Ruger Single Six, 1911, AR15, Marlin 1894, and FAL. And if I'm shooting skeet them my A5.

Thank you for all your input and suggestions. i do like to shoot my .22's alot, as many have suggested, but want something with a little more zip.
I was thinking about a .17 HMR. does anyone have any experience with this firearm?

For me, its my Browning BL-22. great little levergun and the 22 ammo is soooo cheap.
I also have a Colt diamondback in 38 that gets a lot of range time. But truth be told I'm happy shooting anything, be it my Glock 22 or at the skeet range, if it goes "BANG" I probably like it.

Marlin Guide Gun in 45-70 with stout loads. Just blows the smithereens out of stuff. I've been shooting for over 40yrs and this one is the most fun of all. I handload for it so I can shoot it more!
Second....ruger 10-22. Clerke heavy, Hogue OM, Bushnell 3-9x32AO with target turrets. Best group at 50 is .18 with federal lightning's (hand selected from the box). Just shot a crow at 120yds, the target turrets are a hoot for this stuff.

I like to shoot my hawken with round balls. I have seen several guys shooting the 17HMR's at the range and that looks like fun too. I have a super red hawk in .44mag with a 2x weaver scope and its a lot of fun. I guess just about any thing that I can shoot all day with out getting pounded too bad is fun. I used to shoot National match M14's in the army all day long and enjoyed the heck out of that. Especially at longer ranges (past 400 yards).
A good day shooting cant be beat no matter what you choose.

My favorite is (currently) shooting my 1895 with the Gould cast bullet in front of 10gr. of titegroup. Makes for almost no recoil with great accuracy. Barrel does not heat up and I can shoot 3 or 4 hundred in a session easy with very little in cost. I just got a new Savage ML ll, and it is great fun as well. Almost too easy to hit with.

I love shooting my Rugers, scoped 10/22 souped up replaced trigger/hammer/springs etc...plus a nice Hogue overmolded stock full bedded, shoots like a charm, I kept the stainless barrel due to it always shot well, its free floating as well, handlapped it, and my markII 22lr carry that on my side, my best combo for squirrel hunting, use 22lr Rem yellow jackets, The yellow jackets work very well in the 22lr Rugers, good cheap fun, nice to take a youngster out and let him have at it, shooting targets or cans on a back stop, they will shoot all day, as long as I have the ammo LOL ;) If you have the time introduce a young boy or girl into the sport of shooting, once they get the bug they are hooked, never had one say they did not enjoy it, something about aiming a rifle and hitting what you aimed at. I love to see the gleam in there eye's, brings me back when I was young shooting with my father, good memories. Aim small hit small. RAMbo.

My favorite plinking rifle is my Rossi 92SRC in 357 mag. Inexpensive to load for and hardly kicks at all, yet can easily reach out to 100 yards.

My fun gun w/exception to my revolvers, is a Beretta Neos, 6" barrel with a Hakko Panorama red dot. Its a hoot. Point, put dot on what you want to hit, and pull trigger. No recoil, low moise, accurate, fun, and easy enough for most anybody to learn with. Then there are the revolvers....all that I have are fun, to some extent. The triggers take more time to learn, If its not fun to shoot, it gets traded.

cemtech,
I've got a bunch of guns.All sizes,shapes and types.
My favorite deer hunter is the Springfield Krag sporter.
But for pure'fun',nothing beats the little 30 caliber Carbine.
It's fun because it's easy to manage.I can shot it reliably without using the bench. With my other rifles,I'm pretty much a 'bench rat'.

Give me a levergun, be it a 22, or a 38/357. I like a little thump with my plinking, so I also take my Marlin 336C in 35 Remington, just to hear it Booooooooom across the valley. When a little less thump is desired, or for my son, I load ten grains of Unique under a 158 grain SWC, and it still speaks with authority, but doesn't beat him up. 44's are also a hoot, I love my 1894SS.
The hardest part about going plinking isn't opting for a levergun, it's picking just ONE! ;)

Fir shear fun, I like my muzzle loaders best, it doesn't matter which style as I have seven of them, but they are all a blast to shoot, and the smoke and smell is like Heaven on earth. For something a little faster between shots, and quicker to load, I love my 44 Mag Super blackhawk, and trapper carbine combo. You can handload for a 44 pretty cheap, and it's fun to be able to use the same ammo in the revolver as the carbine.
