is it ok to go ahead and fire lap with the .453's you sent me if the cylinder throats are .452?

i think you need to slug the barrel, and if the cyllinder throats are smaller than the groove dia. of the barrel, you'll need to open the throats of the chambers before you lap. if not the cyllender will size the bullet down so the lapping bullet will just cut the lands. not good.

I did all that and a well known pistolsmith I sent it to made them .452 barrel is .451,it's hard to slug the throats now because he left them rough

there is info about this on the forum, these guy's know more about it than I do,it's a process of lapping the bore while firing lead bullets through it.
stupid question but whats fire lapping?
I think Marshall calls it "controlled wear" and has the primary function of polishing the barrel and removes constrictions. It improves accuracy by removing the barrel constrictions typically found in the area of the front sight and where the barrel screws into the frame. And the polished barrel will be much less inclined to lead. You use soft lead bullets which you roll in a very fine lapping compound and load them, using just enough powder to make it all the way down the barrel.
The search function should find a number of previous posts on fire lapping. Better yet, best buy around is the Beartooth Tech Manual which covers fire lapping in detail as well as many other gun related subjects.

If the throats are bigger than the groove diameter of the barrel, lap away.
Should clean up the reamer marks in the throats as well.

Yeah there will always be some reamer marks or whatnot until you polish. That's just the nature of metalworking.
25 ought to be a good start, just shoot the same number in each chamber. I'd normally expect 48 to be a good number to start with for a revolver, at least Rugers anyway. What gun are you lapping?

Well, start with 24 and see how it goes. It's pretty simple, really. Keep us updated.
