I am looking for an annual hunting lease in Texas (preferably no more than 3 hours from Lubbock) for Deer, Hogs, Quail, Dove, etc, etc. If anybody knows of any, I would appreciate some information. There are about 4 or 5 of us looking, we are mostly students so $$$ is a factor. Thanks.

Red Raiders,
It really depends on what you are hunting for. Bird leases are more reasonably priced, but Whitetail hunting has really driven the price up. In most areas 5 guys looking for a good year around hunting lease are going to pay $5000 to $10000 for the lease.
However, one of the newest and best hunting areas in the state for big bucks and hogs as well as turkey and varmints is the Childress area which is not too far from you. This is up along the Red River. The land there is still cheap, and leases are still priced reasonably. You could luck into something for about $800 -$1000 per gun.
You need to allow yourself about 300 acres per gun up there and expect to pay about $3 to $4 per acre. A friend of mine bought 2000 acres and paid $300 per acre. Lotsa of CRP grasslands in the area. Mesquite flats, that you can see a long way across.
Start with the Chamber of Commerce in Childress. PLan on going for a week-end visit to the area and shake some hands
Good Luck

Fellows...
It looks like TPV gave you some good advice and best of luck to you guys. One idea is to approach multi-buck counties with the intent of only killing one buck each. My son-in-law split a spot out in the Del Rio area on a lease with his friend while attending Baylor, each taking only one buck, and it worked out great and was affordable. They are still hunting the place many years later and now can afford a full interest in the lease.

Thanks we will look around Childress, and I am also not opposed to only taking one buck and we were already planning on splitting, if the Leaser allows it.
