This one being a 1886 manufactured Martini-Henry MkIV in 577/450 calibre. Rifling looks quite good, action is tight, and all original configuration-some stock repairs.

Should be a good shooter, and big game thumper I dare say.

I have my first loads made up. 7 rounds with 80gr FFg black(loaded light) and .470" 480gr bullets.

should get some time in the next few days to try them out and see how the old thing performs.

I liked it!

I used 80gr FFg and .470" 480gr bullets. I fired at a target 30 yards off, 7 rounds. The first one was about 6" low, I adjusted the sight picture and put the other 6 into just over 2" and about on the bull. All this while missing the rear sight cap(that's why she's low)

2 rounds were tough to extract for some reason, the other 5 just flipped straight out.

I look forward to heavier loads, further targets, and big game.

Sounds like great fun shooting a centurion rifle! Too revisiting our past and doing it with traditional black! Great stuff. Kind of gives a little more appreciation for the potential those big old bores on downrange targets. The hapless recipient of those big chunks of lead had big problems!

Thanks for the updates!

God bless,

thanks Marshall.

I do enjoy the old Enfields. This is my newest one, the others are older Snider's in .577S.

This Martini is already showing good accuracy potential, and I have yet to find the favoured load. I have been asked for birthday ideas for me this year, a Lee .45 cal 500gr bullet mould is on the list. I will paper-patch these up to .470" This will add another interesting step in reloading.
