Hey Guys. I suppose I'm the new kid on the block. I recognize some of you from Marlin Talk. I'm 17 years old and enjoy hunting and fishing. I have a NEF Handirifle 30/06, Parder 12 ga. and a Huntsman 50 cal. I am looking at getting a Marlin 336W 30-30 from Wal-Mart beacause I've always wanted a lever action. I was wondering what types of groups I should expect and what kind of ammo you have had the best luck with. The biggest game I would be shooting with this is a Whitetail deer. I'd like to be able to hit a clay pigeon at 100-150yards consistantly. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Ryan...

Welcome to BTB's Shooter's Forum. Any of the Marlin's are great rifles. I'm hosting the Postal Match II on this forum and you can check out the targets for these rifles here:

I have one I don't use, it's a great gun. I would sell it with the Nikon UCC 4X, 44mm w/awdjustable eyepiece for $350. I've put about 100 rounds through it.

Marlin 336CS.

It's OK Marshall, it's pointed downrange.

Even bigger yikes flashhole, the guys says he is 17 years old. You may have legal issues here if you sell him and not his parent/guardian the gun. I've had mine since I was 14 but it was a gift from my dad. Just a precaution.

Clearly, any transaction would have to go through someone with a FFL. That keeps us all in good standing with anyone that matters but thanks for the word of caution.

Hey flashhole thanks for the offer, but i think im gonna support my local gun shop. They seem to like you better if you actually buy a gun from then rather than just sit there and drool on them. I asked my parents to buy the gun for me, but they said that they didn't think I needed another gun. I told them I don't really need any of my guns I can just go to the store and buy meat, but rather it's a hobby or collection. You collect baskets, I collect guns. So I think I will treat myself to a gun in August when I turn 18 ;) . Unfortunatly I have to leave for college the next day. I reckon I'll have to hide all my guns somewhere just in case my mom feels like "cleaning" my room.

I bought a 336 for my son years ago....recently I started shooting it again....and due to my old eyes mounted a Williams 5D sight. This required that I change the front post as well so I put on up there with a big white bead. I loaded up some Sierra 125 grain FNHP with 30.5 grains of IMR 4064 , locked it all down with a Lee Factory Crimp die and it makes the rifle a real shooter..accurate...reasonably flat and a pleasure to shoot. I can routinely hit water filled plastic 16oz coke bottles at 150 yards with this combination. I rediscovered how much fun these little guns can be.
