I am just looking for any info regarding this model. I am looking at purchasing one and all I know is that it has a gold plated trigger(?), straoght grip and a microgroove barrel. How long have these been made for? Any info appreciated.

The 44 Mag has been available in the Marlin 1894 for about 30 years or better. All kinds of barrel lengths and stocks.

thank you for a prompt reply. This model is a round bolt model, solid reciever(just like 336 30-30), not a 1894. I haven't seen one before in Canada.

Valter - I think Marlin made this gun for only 1 or 2 years in the 60's. I was also interested in getting one but read that they had feeding problems and thats why Marlin went to the Model 94. I don't know if that is true but there must be some reason for the switch. Hope this helps. Ron

Yes, and an 1894 Marlin is a bit lighter and smaller than the 336 version. The 336 action is a bit more than what's needed with the .44 mag.

If it works I wouldn't be opposed to having one.

One of our members, Mr. James Gates, came up with a 'stretched' .44 mag wildcat for those guns. Search around, think it's called the .44 MagMax.

I have a spare .44 mag barrel for a 336, just haven't found a cheap action yet for my conversion. :)

I have all the Marlin catalogs from the present back through 1965. When I get home I will look through them to see what was offered. Might be the 44T???

The late lamented Gunfacts magazine tested a factory original 336 in .44 Magnum in the December 1968 issue. It grouped under 3" at 100 yards and fed smoothly. Magazine capacity was 10 rounds. At that time it was already out of production and the last retail price was $89.95.

The 336 in 44Mag was produced from "63-"67, straight grip carbine with 20" barrel. There was also available a "Marauder" with a 16 1/2" barrel, also straight grip, microgroove barrel and rounded lever. A 336T (T for Texan) in 44Mag that had a square 'cowboy' lever, as in the current 1894's, was made untill the introduction of the 35Rem in the 336 in "65. And a few of the 44Mags had a brass saddle ring on the left hand side.

Does he do that on the 445 SuperMag case? Or on a 444?
Lol, how cheap is cheap? Got a coupla' 336's here, the 30-30 bolt will take a 44Mag rim.

Shortened .444, I think, probably too hard to get .445 SuperMag brass anymore.

Shipping & FFL eat up any good deals if it isn't local (central texas). I'll find one.... got lots of other projects, anyway.

R*2 pretty much hit the nail on the head...

1963 through 1964, it's the 336 Magnum. This rifle doesn't have the square loop lever, it is rounded, and no saddle ring. Serial numbers would start with a W, Y, or Z.

1965 through 1967, it's the 336T. Square lever and saddle ring. Serial number would start with AA, AB, AC.

The Marauder was never offered in the 44 Mag. Same book R*2 used plus I been busy collecting catalogs...

The fellow I bought my 444T from had one but unfortunately he just sold it... just checked.

I saw one on gunsamerica's website, look under marlin rifles it was on the 2nd or 3rd page i think

The .44 Mag. Max. is a short .444 Marlin, but you will find in converting a Marlin 336 in .30-30......it is best to fireform either .307 or .356 Winchester hulls. Their rim (.30-30 size) works better in the feed rails of a Marlin 336 (and also in the clips for a .30-30 Remington 788 conversion). After fire forming and trimed.....444 Marlin dies are use for loading.....James
