Does anyone know if Federal makes their own brass?
I bought a bag of Winchester brand 300 Win Mag brass. I'm disappointed with it on two fronts, it's about .002"shorter than the cartridge length data in my data books and the thickness of the brass is highly non-uniform at the neck. Even after loading and firing they are too short to trim with the Lee case trimmer.
I have several different brands of brass for both my 7mm Rem Mag and 300 Win Mag and have experienced the same short case and poor uniformity in wall thickness at the neck with Winchester brass on the 7mm.
I am most satisfied with Federal brass, at least for these two cartridges, and I'm wondering if Federal makes their own brass. The Norma brass is easiest to work but it hasn't provided me with the best hand loads. R-P and FC seem to me to be the better choice.
