Hey yall. I was wondering what yall think the quality of the 550 rnd Federal Value pack is? I think they are pretty good for the amount you get. They are 36gr. HP. I like em, cause they're so cheap, you cant beat 550 rnds for $10 bucks. Plus, my Marlin loves em, hehe. I dont know what it is, but some ppl have Marlin 60's that like certain brands of ammo, I personally havent dealt with this, cause all I purchase are the value packs of Feds. Just my .2 cents

I love to hate Walmart, but I do shop there and one of the items I like best is that $10 box of 550. I think it is one of the consistently best shooters in about a dozen different .22 rifles and handguns I've tried them in. Federal assembles a fine cartridge, particularly in that .22 HP.

I shoot that $10.00 box of 550 rounds of Federal 22 lr. in a 45 year old 550 Remington and it will consistantly put 15 rounds inside a 1-inch circle at 50 yards....

My ruger 10/22 shoots this stuff well enough, but it jams much more often than the more expensive stuff.

Try thunderbolt ammo if it is available. it comes in 50 round boxes but for 550 it is only about 50 cents more. Its a little bit higher quality than federal.

I've been using federal for a long time, best bang for the buck. Never use winchesterX though, not even copper jacketed.

I haven't had much luck with the Federal bulk ammo. The best "cheap" ammo I've used is the Remington "Green Box" stuff at Wal-Mart; it goes for under $9 for a box of 550 around here, and shoots 1" - 1.5" at 50yds -- Not bad for the price and a cheap, VERY old scope. My friend's 10/22 does well with it also, no jams yet and just as accurate. My local gun store here sells Ely(sp?) match rounds, and I may try some just to compare. My rifle is a 50 year-old H&R bolt action. I keep thinking I should look for a newer .22, but every time I shoot it I figure the only thing it really needs is a decent scope.

Haven't bought any of the Federal packs in two months now but it was selling for 8.45/550 rds. Winchester SuperX was 7.95/550 rds at my WalMart. The Lighting Bolts where then .99/50 rds. Would occasunially have misfires with the Federals but my Rugers and Marlins love them. My M261 .22LR conversion for the AR only likes the Remington.
