You might try the Chili or Mulchatna, for the Mulchatna herd. I think there are a lot of folks doing so, but there is rough water along way.
I strongly suggest before undertaking any float trip for hunting, to run several rivers with someone that has a lot of experience. Most of the rivers going through caribou country have several spots of Class II and III water along the way. Those waters can get you in trouble in a real hurry, unless you are very experienced, especially with a fully loaded raft.
Float hunting for sheep can be done, but in my experience, you really need to dedicate yourself to the sheep hunt and hunt a specific area pretty hard to be successful. Also, any river that is big enough to float a raft is usually pretty dangerous in sheep country. You figure the sheep are going to be high in the mountains and cliffs. If there's a river running through there big enough to float a raft, it'll be stacked in canyons and you'll have your hands full negotiating whitewater, instead of sheep hunting. At least it seems that way in the Wrangells and Chugach Mts.
I highly recommend seeking a rafting mentor and practice on Class II-III waters enough to become very comfortable with those ratings before undertaking a float hunting trip on the wilder rivers.
I worked at prudhoe bay for a few years and flew the area everday. I have never done it yet but allways wanted to float the colville river.lots of good cabibou and a easy river to float. I think you should eather hunt cabibou or sheep but not in the same hunt. Hab
