Hi guys,
I've complained about things that have caused me problems, that I feel I owe it to my fellow members to report something very positive about a very valued reloading supplier. ( Recently, a friend asked me after one of my rants, " Is there anyone that you see regularly that you DO like and respect for their knowledge ?" I answered, " Yep, I shave most every morning and look at about the only guy I know----besides MikeG, and all you guys at the Forum, that fits your description.")
About six weeks ago, my aged, RS-2 press by RCBS, finally developed a malady that required replacement. This malady was partly ( probably 75%) my fault. I sent it to RCBS in California and enclosed a letter admitting that I'd made thousands and thousands of reloads with this press and have owned it since they began in business under the RCBS name-----probably the middle or late 1960's. I admitted to using all manner of spray on lubricants without ever in all those years taking the thing apart and giving it a good cleaning. I admitted that some primers filled the tube in the ram and got jammed inside the ram guide/holder and that I used a stainless steel rod to attempt to pound the primers out of the ram. When that diodn't work, I extended the ram arm with a steel water pipe----a long one ! Then I ended this story with due to all the above, if they felt I should buy a replacement model, I would be glad to do so !
A few weeks later after not hearing anything, and having switched to my old Lee handpress, I was surprised to receive a BRAND NEW PRESS----less the operating handle. After a phone call, it took another week or ten days to get a new handle------the wrong one---too big in diameter. After I sent the too-big handle back with a note explaining the problem, and offering to buy a new handle that fits, I received a brand new handle of the correct size-----again, at no charge.
I'd say that RCBS really means it when they say they have a "lifetime guarantee", but I'll bet my last buck that they never planned on this old coot making it to age 70 ! :D
Don't you ?
:D Chuck
