I have heard that the mainspring on a Rossi 92 is very difficult to remove. I have heard you need to put a small thin rod through a hole in the hammer strut to hold the spring.
What if you need to remove the spring? I have a 92 takedown guide and it doesn't go into it.
I'd appreciate the help.
Thanks,

Yep, you gotta put a thin something in the hole of the main spring strut.
To remove the main spring you need to remove the tang screw, remove the stock, then cock the hammer and put a pin in the hole of the spring strut.
Then unscrew and remove the hammer screw. Work the lower tang out of the frame and the hammer will also come out. The main spring strut is pinned to the hammer.
Then to remove the spring from the strut, you have to pull the pin out of the rod.
Reassembling is a bit trickier, but basically just reverse the disassembly.

If you do decide to remove that main spring, be careful putting it or the new one back in. the only way I was able to get an aftermarket lower tension spring into my rossi 92src was with the help of the wife. We still had several adventures finding the spring, which seemed to like to hide behind or under furniture. For such a small spring, it has quite a bit of power! :)
