I am in the market for a new trap thrower. I have had the cheaper throwers that consist of three pins, or similar that just rests on the ground. I find this inflexible as far as changing up where the target goes without the shooter knowing what is up since you have to manipulate the entire unit, and even worse, they always seem to break quickly, and or are hard to control and keep in one location, thus you always seem to be manipulating the trap to keep it functional. I have also had bouts with the trap breaking many clays as it throws. Lastly, I am interested in throwing doubles as well, however don’t want to go to the extreme of double arms as I want to still be reasonable as far as size, weight and complexity goes.

To sum it up, I am looking for a good, sturdy trap that can change clay direction, speed, etc, quickly, and is of high quality. I am not afraid to spend the money. It seems you can spend $50 trying many out, and or going through disposable traps and may still end up spending more than dong it right the first time.

Anyway, I was looking possibly at the one below. I like the fact that it can also be put into the receiver hitch as well, but still allow a degree of portability to remove and just sit on it, which I also feel should help the way the smaller ones jump in all directions. I do feel a little insecure about sitting directly behind the throwing mechanism however.

My brother has a thrower that requires zero effort to pull it back, in my mind increasing safety, however he has to stand on the release with quite a bit of weight to throw the clay. I like it in a sense that it seems safer to load, which is a concern, however I want my 117lb wife to be able to throw as well, without looking all discombobulated, possibly falling, and having to explain why I brought her to the hospital to the family… I noticed the above unit claims the ¾ cock is easy to cock which in my mind removes some of the danger. Is this unit safe, with a fail safe trigger, so I can be confident with wife and children near?

Any insight would be great! I know many have shared the same frustration as I with trap throwers.

For years now I've used the inexpensive Trius trap launcher.
I just recently purchased thru cabelas the Do-All "clay-hawk", that looks like a big car jackstand. It is very adjustable, very easy to set and use and very portable.

If memory serves, it was only like 50 bucks.

This is it...just found it on Dick's

BPR,
If you are wanting something that will throw fast and with some distance you need to go with a "3/4 Cock" thrower. You can get them from Do-All Traps for around $200. Anything less than a 3/4 Cock unit will not give you much of an improvement/upgrade.

Hope that helps.
