I worked a load using44SP 200gr Speers GDHP on top of 8gr Unique, CCI primers, Lee factory crimp. This is very accurate load in my Taurus 5 shot. I was shooting around twenty yards, put my target in front of a big wet log, shot a few shots then looked to see if I could find the bullets and see how they reacted, come to find out the Gold Dots did what I thought they would do, a perfect mushroom, A few bullets made it through the log and into the dirt. Here is a few pictures of the GDHP after shooting through a wet log. Aim small hit small. RAMbo.

Interesting. Just how thick was that log. Green pine? Old hardwood? Good photos.

it was cross cut hardwood about a foot deep, been out in the weather for a while. i also shot some 454 Casulls, Hornady XTP 300grs, here is a picture of the XTP 300gr 454casull. I was using 30gr Win296, Rem 6 1/2 primers, Lee factory crimp.
the XTP's did not have the mushroom like the goddot, but still held together well, plus traveling around 1550fps;) the 44SP 950fps...Aim small hit small. RAMbo.

The Gold Dot is a good bullet. I finished testing a batch of different .44 Special loads a couple of weeks ago, the complete test report is found here:

Mark,

Wanted to pass along an attaboy for the Bulldog article at gunblast.com. I read it when first posted. Those Devastators looked...well, devastating. It's a shame no one loads them commercially, but as you noted, cast HP's are a pain.
