I am thinking about purchasing a scope by the name of Swift that is sold by the E. Author Brown Company in Minn. Below is a copy of the review by E. Brown on the the swift Premier line of scopes. If you have owned one of these please let me know what you think. My thoughts is that it is quite a claim to say that these are as good as Leupold. There is a big difference between the VXI and VXIII scopes. I am thinking about the model 285-687M. A link to their web site is: http://www.eabco.com/Swift01.htm
Thank You,
Trent

It's an unfamiliar name to many hunters, but Swift scopes have been earning a solid reputation among our customers for years... especially the "Premier" line of rifle scopes. I often use the phrase, "As good as Leupold, or awfully close..." when describing the Swift Premier and that's not hype. We have many customers who've said they actually prefer the Swift Premier over Leupold. At nearly 1/3 the price, the Swift Premier delivers comparable quality, repeatable accuracy, reliability, and function... They've got a Lifetime Warranty, too.
Common Features of Swift Premier Scopes - They all come with high grade lenses that are Fully Multi-Coated for a bright and clear sight picture. They all come with the Speed Focus Eyepiece so that you can easily dial the reticle into the sharpest focus. And, they all come with durable Full Saddle Construction in the turrets... so they'll stay sighted in from one shot to the next regardless of recoil. Other features relating to special purpose use are described below. Most have what I call a medium fine quadraplex reticle... This is a very fine, precise aiming center crosshair with medium fine outer crosshair to give quick sight acquisition and range estimating capabilities. It presents a refined sight picture for hunting and target shooting.

Trent I recently purchased my secon Swift scope. The first was a used pistol scope. It had paralex problems so I called the service department and they informed me that they no longer manufactured that scope. They offered me a replacement and I chose one that would match my hunting style and rifle. I have used it to sight in ans have found it to hold its zero.
Additionally I have been impressed with the light gathering quality and lense clarity. Support was as prommised.

i acquired a 4x swift on a contender barrel i bought some years ago. i had never heard of them before. but i have been so impressed with it that i am now considering purchasing one for a m70 stealth .223 that i recently acquired. and for 20 plus years i used leupold only on my target and go to weapons.

Thank You Genlemen. Your feedback helps aid my decision. If these scopes are as nice as you say I frankly can't figure out why so many folks will spend 2 to 3 times the $$$ on something else that may have = quality. For what they want for one of these I think I will place an order today and do my own comparison to one my 3X9X40 VXI scopes. I am not expecting any great revolation how the Swift compares to my Zeiss and Schmidt & Bender but I will let the forum know in the forum how this one stacks up against some of the Burris FF2 and Leupold VXI scopes I have. Thanks again for the feedback.

trapper, i read a review by a shooter at accuratereloading.com
today on the swift 676. he claims that the impact changed 1/2" as he zoomed up in power at 100yds and that there was a paralax problem. might go to the above mentioned site and look at the optics topic and read the thread. right now it is on page 2. just thought i'd pass this along.

Arky,
Thank You. I will check that out. If I decide to bu the scope I will ask that it have some contingency items. I will not keep a scope that has problems with the point of impact changing depending on the power. Paralax problems would not over concern me because the scope would have an AO. I will read this review and e-mail the person who wrote the post. Thanks Again.

A few years ago I bought a 4-12 x40mm AO Swift from EABCO (before the US export authority decided that an export permit was required to send scopes to Canada) and it has been a great scope for me.
I use it on a 22LR Contender Carbine barrel but I have swapped it over to other hard kicking Contender barrels for load development because it is the highest magnification scope I own. I can't say how it compares to my old fixed 12x Leupold I had on a varminter years ago but it does great work for the price. My guess is it will match anything a Vari-X-II can do.

Well I ordered the 205-687M Premier Mildot 4.5-14X44 A/O Matte for $149 on Tuesday. I should have the scope by this weekend and intend to test it out for overall quality and light and optical quality. I think I will top my Win, Model 70 Coyote in 22.250 with it. I will post my results and show a picture of the target groups at 100 yards. If you order your Swift from E. Arthur Brown Co. you can get a 10 day trail on the scope. You just return it for a refund. You can't return it once you have dropped it in the mount and tightened the screws. I will let everyone know how it stacks up to all the rest including my Schmidt Bender.
Thanks for everyone's comments.

I put the 671m on my Ruger 7mm mag about 5 yrs ago. I wouldn't trade that scope for anything!!! Folks at deer camp are impressed with it's clarity as well. I'm very impressed with SWIFT scopes and will buy more!!!

I was thinking of getting the same scope since its on sale. To put on a .22 for target
shooting for now, but maybe a large bore rifle later.
I got a used rifle with a Swift 3-9x on it, and noticed a break in the reticle where they all
meet. They sent me a new one but I'm waiting on some gun parts so haven't shot it
yet.
Swift answers email & the telephone, and put one of their tech guys on the line to tell
me how to find the mechanical zero the correct way.
I'm also happy with their Lynx 20-25x 60mm spotting scope.Lÿ

I have owned 2 Swift scopes.... a fixed 6 x 40, which I used on an Elk and Mule Deer rifle....and a 2 x 20 handgun scope, which I used on a Rem. 700 (set up as a Scout Rifle)...and on a slug gun, with a similar mount. I have nothing but positive comments about the Swifts. They never gave me the sightest problems...and always held zero. The 6 x 40 that was on my 7mm mag. was put through it's paces....in the high country and in adverse weather cnditions, including snow. The 2 x 20 helped me take several Eastern Whitetails, ranging out as far as 160 yards.
I never hesitate to recommend the Swift scopes to anyone - very good scopes. GREAT scopes, when one factors in the modest prices. I purchased both from E. Arthur Brown company....a nice outfit with which to do business.

Just replaced one Leupold and one Nikon with Swift's. Swift uses a quadraplex recticle which helps eliminate parralax errors and is also a lot more shock stabile. Have a 4x40 on my .22 rifle that got smashed up in the move, hit hard enough to dent the vertical adjustment cap down onto the adjustment screw. Knocked the rings off that indicate direction of turn for up and left and has a slight crack in the forward optic where the tube smacked off the barrel.
Can't say if the POI changed from the beating the scope took or if it was the ammo change. Re-zeroed the scope, glued the rings back on and pounded some of the dent out of the cap and she's good as new. Didn't loose the seal on the tube despite the crack in the optic.
Swifts are the only ones I can take from the cool airconditioned house out into the hot humid air and not have fog over, tube gets wet but optics remain dry. You won't beleive how clear the optics are too.

Markkw-I've been wondering about Swift scopes for some months now. I did an "unofficial" comparison at the gun store, and for my $ I like the Swifts over all of them. I think my first one will be the 2x7x42mm. Thanks for the post!

I have three swifts. They owner of a local gun shop in my area that does more business than anyone says that he would put them scopes up against Leopuld any day. I bought two premeirs and he threw in a cheap 3-9. I lost zero on the 3-9 sent it back and they sent me a new one.
The other two have performed flawlessly and I am very happy with the 6-18 I bought because I have had it on every gun I have at one time or another. I have beat the ever-livin-crap out the other two without a problem.
Here is another site that sells them cheap.

You'll like your Swift scope. I have guided a few hunters that used the Swift scopes and looked through them at dark enough that I ended up buying the 4-12x A.O. For the money, you can't beat them.
Whether they are as good as my Leupolds, I don't think so.
That would take years of hard use.
Most scopes are very clear when first purchased, but I've got to see what a few years of use will do.
I take care of my hunting stuff, but I don't baby any of it.
I guess me and my Swift will have to develope some history before I give it a thumbs up.
I always rate equipment on overall 'huntability" That takes a while.
Good luck with yours

TVP, get ready for a long happy relationship with your Swift. The one I have that took a serious pounding I have owned for many years, I think over 10 years. Still as clear and sharp as when I bought it.
Newest one for me is the Model 687M (4.5-14 x 44 mil-dot) I've only recently come to like the Mil-dot's, for some reason most mfg's make the dots gigantic in size and you end up loosing field of view to the dots. The size and spacing of the Swift dots are perfect. I also found that on the .30-06 they are easy to correspond to vertical adjustment for rounds that have different trajectories. My 165gr shoot pretty flat compared to the 210gr cast bullets. w/o changing the zero, I found that using using the dots as a vertical guide at estimated ranges puts you right on the mark instantly. Still like the duplex recticles on the fixed power scopes but have new found love for the mil-dot's too.
