i have one in 45 Colt. Love it. One of the last gun that I will sell. In fact I think it's more fun than any 22's that I have. Got to watch it though, my girlfriend has been shooting it more than I have lately. If we ever get married i would definitely lose it if there will be a divorce. BTW, my 45 Colt absolutely love the LEE tumble lube 230 gr FN. You'll have lotsafun with yours.
Another vote for the trappers. I have three, absolutely love 'em.

Georgian,
I have two right now, a 1980 Winchester 94 in 30-30, and a 1895 USRAC 94AE in .45 Colt. I will not part with either of them. They both fill a nitch when I'm out in the boonies. Are quite accurate, and very handy.
The Win versions will also function with longer OAL cartridges that the Marlins and Rossi's choke on. Not really a big thing, but something that might be considered.
HUNTER_IN_AK,
(Something serious to consider) If AK is a community property state, and you get married, then neither party can take property that is owned by the other party prior to the marriage. However anything acquired during the marriage is community property, therefore fair game.
That does not mean a vindictive judge can't order you to dispose of the possessions by means of a restraining order, or that you won't have to sell them to pay for a lawyer to represent you. At least this is the way things run in AZ and IL. Both comunity property states.
I've been married for 21 years to the same gal. We've had our problems, and I'm sure more will pop up. BUT, I said when I got married I was only going to do it once, and that I had no intension of ever filing for divorce. That is still my feelings on the subject.
When I read comments like yours, I get sad. It's almost as if you don't have any faith in yourself or the gal you are involved in. My suggestions about marriage is simple: When in doubt, don't.
Sorry for the soap box, I just felt the need to say this. If you were joking, then take it as someone with a wee bit of experiance giving unsolicited advice.
Now, since she likes your trapper so much, why not buy her one? My wife prefers the .357 round, so when our financial situation improves, I'm going to buy her a lever gun, maybe a trapper in that caliber. Just to make her happy.

I've only owned one Trapper and, to be honest, it was almost certainly the worst-shooting longarm I've ever purchased. That said, I am very confident it was just this one particular gun. Obviously many, many people are quite satisfied with the Trapper. I wish I had a buck for every one ever sold. If you like the 94, this handy .44 should serve you well.

We got two AE trappers with the cross bolt safety.I have yet to see the new tang site, but I rather just use the hammer. One rifle is in 357 and the other in 44 Mag. The 44 Mag has got to be the slickest little gun around and I have shot a lot of lead through it.
For hunting it is just ideal for dogging and can be backed in the back of the ATV when not in use.
Hope you will have as much fun, as we do with ours.
Better get two , so you and the Mrs. will not need to take turns shootin'

Georgian, You may want to spend a few minutes on the range before buying(if possible). I took my '94 AE(1894-1994) to the shop today. When shooting 44 specials it ejects the next live round as well as the empty. Loading gate is a little tricky. Very accurate with either 44 specials or magnums and as handy as a pocket on a shirt.
Good luck!

As I mentioned in another thread:
I've got a number of Marlin 1894's and Winchester & Rossi 92's, so when I decided I really needed another Trapper, I decided to go with a 94 this time just to round things out a little bit! This is what I bought:
Winchester '94 16" Trapper - .44 Magnum

Tonight I fired about 40 rounds of various .44mag and .44spl ammo through it and chronographed them all. Keep in mind I'm testing for personal defense ammo here, not for hunting. Everything fed and fired without a problem of any kind. Here's the data:
.44 Mag /Win 94 16"/Hornady 200 gr. JHP/XTP/1919fps/1635fpe
.44 Mag/Win 94 16"/Speer Gold Dot 210 gr. JHP/1919fps/1716fpe
.44 Mag/Win 94 16"/Hornady 240 gr. JHP/XTP/1781fps/1689fpe
.44 Mag Win 94 16"/Winchester 240 gr. Hollow SP/1749fps/1630fpe
.44 Mag Win 94 16"/Winchester Partition Gold JHP/1680fps/1567fpe
.44 Mag Win 94 16"/Amer Eagle 240 gr. JHP/1657fps/1463fpe
.44 Mag Win 94 16"/Win 210 gr. Silvertip HP/1578fps/1161fpe
.44 Spl Win 94 16"/Win 200gr. Silvertip HP/1000fps/444fpe
The 210 gr. .44mag Silvertip looks like a nice personal defense round, except that was the only round which displayed a considerable amount of muzzle flash in front of the 16" barrel! Dang! The power is quite moderate for a .44 mag (I find that quite desireable for a personal defense load in .44 mag), but why must it have all that muzzle flash? Too bad!
Anyway, I sure like this little rifle. Quick to shoulder and to turn. The slim forestock is wonderful, the length and weight are great. Looks awesome. I actually really like the tang safety and think I could even get used to having the rebounding hammer.
The trigger pull is definitely too heavy, though, and must be lightened.
The action is pretty slick as is, except for the heavy resistance of the hammer while cycling the action... can that be lightened without compromising anything?
Also, I'd like the rifle much better without the saddle ring... is that removeable without leaving a big hole?
The slim black plastic cap on the butt looks great, but is there a rubber one available to replace that solid plastic one with? That would be a really nice change.
And lastly, is there a good front sight replacement which would pick up quicker? Lots of times I can't even see the front sight on this rifle.
This little Trapper is a hoot and a half! I'm happy to join the legions of 94 owners!
