Relo 45/70

:D Not trying to cause bad feelings. Just read the thread about the 1894P kicking hard. I have a hunting buddy who has let me shoot his 1894S in .44 mag and I also have a 1894 FG in .41 mag. I've noticed that the .44 kicks more even with loads that are the same, 265 gr bullet with 21 gr xxx powder. Has anyone else found the same to be true or am I slowly going crazy. Please don't say I'm wimpy as I also shoot my GS with Garrett loads and love it. It just seems to me that the .41 is so much better in the recoil department as well as other areas. I love my .41 Mag.;)

I have owned and hunted with a 44 Marlin for many years. It stomped. Finally I got rid of it. Now I own a 41 Marlin. The answer to your question is yes and no. With standard factory bullets, the 41 has less recoil than the 44. However, if you reload the 41 Marlin with a 250 grain bullet and a full load of powder, then it kicks just as hard as the 44 Marlin. I think the difference lies in the bullet weight. The 44 shoots a heavier bullet which causes more recoil with a full load of powder.
