Excerpt from “American Handgunner” July/August 2004
Forum: Handgun Hunting – J.D. Jones
Claire Rees has come to the rescue with a fine book called, rather modestly; “The Ultimate Guide to Handgun Hunting”. Good advice, with tips and tactics for hunting small and big game in a 261-page hard cover book. Clair begins with a chapter on why we hunt with handguns and proceeds through the basics of all action types and their hunting capabilities. He goes through the process of choosing a hunting handgun, sights, and ammunition. A great deal of space is devoted to hunting small game, varmints and big game in the US and Africa. Several hunting tales by various highly experienced-types are included; including Kelly’s shootout with a very irritated Brown Bear in a one room cabin.
Many well-known handgun hunters contributed to the book, and Clair winds up the well-illustrated book with chapters on custom hunting handguns and creating effective handloads. I’m happy to recommend this book as an important learning tool, as well as simply some entertaining reading. Frankly, it’s the best boon on generalized handgun hunting ever published. It will be in book clubs and bookstores; however for an early autographed copy send check or MO for 27.85 (which includes shipping) to Clair Rees, c/o BB Press; PO Box 215, American Fork, UT 84003.
