I have a Remington 257 Roberts Model 7600. I bought it brand new in 1991. At the time I was told that the caliber was an experiment by Remington to see if it would sell in this caliber. I also was told that only 1,000 were to be made..I later was told that production of that caliber was stopped and that I now own (1) of 1,000 ever made in the 7600, 257 Roberts..I have the original box and sales receipt. only 1 box of ammo was ever fired out of it and it is in brand new condition..I wrote remington and asked them if i , in fact did own (1) of 1,000 ever made and they denied to tell me. What i want to know is: Is this true? What is the approximate value of it? I paid $450.00....I really want to sell it...i cant find anything about it on the net.....

The only listing for the .257 Roberts chambering found in the Blue Book of Gun Values is in the older Model 760 Gamemaster rifle. It was produced in this chambering from 1955 to 1961.

There is a statement that this model seems to have regional pricing differences in the rare calibers (.222 Rem, .223 Rem and .257 Robt's), that values in the Eastern US are quite a bit higher than those in the Midwest and West. The book lists the .257 at $850 in 100% condition.

Don't know what to tell you for the Model 7600.

The model 7600 since it's inception has occasionally been offered in limited run chamberings some new and some bringbacks from the "760" days . Never new them to be refered to as "experimental " but that does have a nifty ring to it. As Kdub mentioned above a stellar example of a 760 in the .257 can bring quite a bit of change as these 50's and 60's vintage guns were workhorses and few are found in pristine condition . as to the 7600 it doesn't have much in the way of collectability , but that doesn't mean you won't find somebody out there willing to pay a slight premium over the market value for a like condition 7600 if they are specifically looking for a "roberts" . Going price for a 7600 in these parts and the western Pa region is in the neighborhood of 450.00 -475.00 ish . a new in the box condition ,sitting on the used rack usually sell for 100.00 or so dollars less (depending on the shop ) . You are at a vantage to be in Pennsylvania who by all rights should have adopted the Remington pump gun as their "State gun" , and you might find a zealot who will empty his bank account to take the thing off your hands, tell e'm it's an "experimental " model (tee-hee).
