View Full Version : 41 mag Marlin accuracy?

I own a 41 Marlin. It shoots terrible groups with jacketed bullets. But with 250 grain hard cast bullets, 2 inch groups are common at 100 yards. I was just wondering, how many 41 Marlin owners get 3 inch or better groups at 100 yards with jacketed bullets? I was wondering if 41 Marlin's have a problem with jacketed bullets or is my gun a special case?

I've had pretty good results using jacketed in an "S" and my current "FG." Back with the original .41, I never shot cast in carbines. It did well with Remington bulk bullets and Sierra JHC's. With iron sights (factory front, Williams aperture rear) it was good for groups under 3 inches at 100 yards.
The FG I now own hasn't been shot much but has shown good accuracy with Federal 210-grain factory JHP's. I've just recently started development with the Speer Gold Dot, so really can't say how good they'll ultimately be. Early groups show it should be capable of shooting inside 2.5 inches at 100 yards, again with iron sights. Right now I've limited Gold Dot testing to half that distance, only because the gun still has the factory open sights and my bullet supply is limited. Once I get a receiver aperture installed, I'll move the targets to 100.

You are a fortunate fellow. Shoot the lead in it exclusively. I would love to have your rifle.

Be thankful you can get the cast to work.
Did you try breaking in the barrel first. Mine shoots very well with Hornady 210 gr xtp over 19.5 gr w296. Very accurate. 1.97" @ 100 yds.
The .41 is very fickle. The 210 Fedrals Bill suggested also shoot well in my FG.
My .41's are both scoped
