Is it possible to rebarrel a Marlin 1895 in .45-70 to .348 Winchester? I know the bolt face would have to be opened up by .010", but would the COL in the .348 be too much? The limits on COL in the Marlin seems to be 2.55", and I can't find COL for the .348 with 150, 220 and 250 gr bullets. Any help would be appreciated.
A custom shop in Alaska builds very powerful wildcats from Marlin actions. Can't recall their name. Two loads features the .348 case necked up to .375 and .416 for bear stoppers.
Perhaps someone can direct you to their website.

Wildwest isn't using Marlin actions for the .348 based wildcats, the 450 and 500 Alaskans. They are using their own propriatory action that does indeed look like a Marlin. This is the same action they are using to build the 500 S&W leveraction rifle.

Mike,
According to my Hodgdon Manual #27, the .348 Win's COl is 2.830" with all three bullet sizes.
Reg Nonneman is converting Marlin rifles to 50 Alaskan, based on a slightly shortened .348 case, and I've seen several ads for riflesmiths who can rework the action to take somewhat longer case lengths.
In other words........maybe, and ......... $$
