Just wondered if someone could inform me how to remove a Ruger #1's buttstock. Thanks in advance.
The buttstock comes off the same as most shotguns - you have to remove the buttplate or recoil pad to expose the hole for the throughbolt that attaches to the rear of the receiver. Using either a stock bolt tool or a large screwdriver, back out the stock bolt. If it is very tight, bump the front of the comb with the heel of a hand to start it.

Often times it is difficult to remove that screw. Getting it broken loose is the key. This tip should help.

Good luck!

MarsahalL:
Never thought about the lug wrench solution (until now).
My "solution" was to get the longest CHEAP plastic handled screwdriver with a square shank I could find, melt the handle off, and connect it to the apripriate socket driver (with extensions if needed). IF the shank is long enough as it is, being square, can use the apropriate open end wrench to give it that intial "oomph".
Helps to wrap tape about 2" back from the blade and again about 2" up from the shank's end...not a tight fit, but enough to help center the driver in the stock hole.

Thanks to all for the advice. I was at work this AM and wondered where to start. I went ahead and placed a Moyer trigger on that baby. According to poundage now, I have a 3 # trigger compared to 8# this morning. The gun is fairly accurate, but is heck to try to hold on target with that pull. Hopefully better now. I had a long screwdriver, so that was not the issue. I just didn't remember any tang screws and the gun was not in front. Again, thanks to all. Now for my 357...
