In the sixth edition of Hornady,
265gr FP bullet use the powder H 4198 for the (max) powder is 45.4gr and the velocity is 2200.
But if you use the Hodgdon powder manual (for the same bullet) H 4198 powder 47.0gr and the velocity is 2273

The Hornady book is saying that you can only use this (max) powder no more. But in the Hodgdon book we are going way over the bullet suggeston.
Which book is right the bullet maker, or the powder maker? Rob

I would go to the 45.4 gr load and reduce it by 10% and work up from there looking for accuracy and pressure signs. It is always better to err on the side of safety. Besides if the load isn't accurate, it isn't going to do the job near as well.

I think it is because the powder company has more faith in their product. Hornady also supplies their data rounded to the lower 100 FPS.
