Michael,
There will be no help coming from me since I'm wrestling with the same affliction as you. Just enjoy the 375 and keep us posted on its accuracy.

Good for you! Those are getting harder to find.... at least at reasonable prices. They're a little lighter in weight than the triple-fours, and boy, to they pack a wallop as well!
Do keep us posted.
God bless,
RD,
You are beyond help unless you picked up that .375 for me to use next March. ;)

Dave,
Consider the use reserved for at least one hog kill.

If you reload, the 375 Marlin is a great gun. It knocks deer and hogs dead with just as much authority as a 444 and has a little more range. In my opinion, it is the best lever gun that Marlin has ever made, even better than the 356. However, if you reload up to it's full potential, you may want to put a recoil pad on it. Can't wait for you try it on the local hogs and report back. Good luck.

Taylor,
I plan on putting a LimbSaver pad on it.

Congratulations, did you buy it new?
To answer your question - NO! Guns are like horses, they have strong herding instincts. The bigger the herd the better and the more secure they all feel. Let us know if you get any offspring.
I'm jealous.
RD,
Does this mean I have to lug all of my once fired 444 brass all the way down there? ;)

Michael,
As I sit here, it has become perfectly clear you have an acute case of MARLINITIS ! The only known cure is to obsessively accumulate as many as these fine guns, as one can find(or one's wife allows), until the affliction ceases. Some severe cases last a lifetime. I believe I obtained my case thru this site(computer virus ?). Yeah, I picked up 2 .375 Marlins, along w/ a couple of 444P's, 1894 .357, and other numerous Marlins I'm too embarrassed to mention, from visiting this site. And I'm still drooling over more(1894 .41 mag, and 1895 in .475 Linebaugh)
The .375 is a great gun ! I was able to reach around 2300 fps w/ AA1680 and a RCBS 375 250 gr FNGC cast of watercooled WW, which drop out at 275 grs. Brass was W-W fireformed .30-30 brass.
Yep, I think our own Marshall may be a known carrier of MARLINITIS, and is spreading it unknowingly to all who visit the site. Just sit back, enjoy, and let it run its course. It sure puts alot of fun back into the hunt. Congrats on a fine gun ! ;)

Maybe there is a 12 step program?

Maybe there is a 12 step program?
Would that be buying 12 more Marlins. If so, do the five I already have count? Let's see... still looking for a 218 Bee, 25-35, 44 Mag, 41 Mag, 35 Rem (50's), 356 (maybe, not worth the going price IMHO), and then a 45-70. Yeap, that must be the 12 step program.

Speaking of 356's. My brother lives next to an old geezer that runs around his farm on a 4-wheeler with a 356 in its scabbard. He shoots cast bullets out of it at about 1700fps, and has totally demolished the stocks, although everything else looks in good order. I am working on this guy for this gun. I even offered him a brand new 35 as an even trade. So far no deal. Marlin just didn't make enough of them. Congrats on the 375. I am in the same program you are. Lets see, I guess I have 6 so far. 7 if you count the 30-30 from my youth.

Estate planning...it's the responsible thing to do.
All terminally ill Marlinaholics owe it to the rest of us, the mildly afflicted, to draw up your Last Will and Testament to specify that your entire Marlin collection will be offered for sale on this site following your death.
Think of it as a public service that will keep great old guns in use. Don't trust your spouse to know what to do with these guns. Sure leave a favorite to each deserving child or grandchild, but give the rest of us a shot at building the estate by buying these treasures and giving them a good home.

R.D., if the guilt becomes too much to bear, I'll give it a good home here in Fla. knocking over big nasty hogs in the swamps. Of course I'll reimburse you for whatever you paid for it. With my .35 Rem. and .45/70 I only have 10 more steps to go.... :D Right before the Marlin site crashed and burned, I had a deal in the works with a guy who had 4 or 5 of the .375's at hand, to buy one. Of course I didn't write down the contact E-mail address....arrrrg :( . The prices were in the $350 to $400 range, and the pics looked 98% new. Ahhh, the lessons we have to learn along the way. Enjoy your new find, and congrats. Lee.

naumann...
Some very good points. Actually, I think I will be able to turn my grandsons into Marlinuts. These very thoughts weigh on me... who ever hunts the hardest is going to get the land and loot. Kind of leaves my two daughters out!
SnookKatcher...
One of the bad consequences of Marlinitus is that there is no guilt after a day or two when you find yourself eyeballing another Marlin on a rack or in a truck! Got all my reloading stuff ordered including BTBullets.

Michael,
The .375 is a great gun ! I was able to reach around 2300 fps w/ AA1680 and a RCBS 375 250 gr FNGC cast of watercooled WW, which drop out at 275 grs. Brass was W-W fireformed .30-30 brass.
Jeff
I've been wanting to try AA1680 but have had trouble finding it around here. What does your bore slug at? Have you tried 38-55 brass vs the FF 30-30? Measurements of these cases that I've done show the 38-55 will hold about 3% more water than the FF 30-30...some say more but that's what I found. I believe that the case wall thickness for both cases should be the same.
You're seeing nearly 200 fps more than I've gotten out of my Marlin. Those loads were with Re7. Just curious to compare notes. Marshall got me interested in the 375 to start with too. A few years ago he was planning to write up some tech notes on it but I guess he's too busy making bullets right now.

Bartmasterson,
Never got around to slugging my bore, but took Marshall's advice, and used a bullet with a diameter of .377". However, I did firelap the gun with a noticeable improvement in both accuracy and velocity. Picked up around 70 fps and went from 3" groups at 100 yds., to just under 2", for 5 shots.
Have also shot a heck of a lot of WC680, a surplus powder, which is the twin to AA1680. All ignited with WLRP. This is sold in 8 lb. jugs from Jeff Bartlett reloaders, in the Beartooth links.
Cannot comment on the 38-55 brass, as I was just trying to save a few pennies, by fireforming the W-W .30-30 brass (imagine that, after spending too much on other things, i.e. guns ;) ). Hope this helps. The .375 is a beut of a gun.

Got my 375 Marlin in today but left it at the small gun shop to have a LimbSaver recoil pad fitted to it. It looks like it will be a great hog killer and give my other Marlins a run for their money. It has an old 3X Bushnell mounted on Weaver Rings and it looks pretty good.
Hopefully my dies, cases, and BTB bullets will be here by the weekend.

My dies, brass and bullets arrived yesterday according to my wife... so things are looking good for the weekend and next week. My wife said she was never going to lift a Beartooth box again

I remember several years ago I got a large order of bullets. The UPS guy luged the box to the door. He asked me "what the heck is in there...lead?" I just said : Yep! :)
