A friend saw one of these new Auto Ordnance M1 carbines at a gun store and told me it looks well made.

I could get interested in one if it's accurate and will feed varmint bullets. Has anyone seen it yet? Any experience or info? Thanks. adk

I have some limited experience with the GI version. They're a lot of fun to shoot and would make a pretty good home defense arm as well, especially when loaded with JSP's. I hadn't realized AO/Kahr was making a new version. Interesting.

Have had several of the original GI issue carbines - even carried an M2 while in the service. As stated, a lot of fun to shoot, but definitely not in the varmit class of firearms. The most accurate I've seen were those converted to .223/.30 carbine. Forgot what the cartridge is called, but they didn't do too badly out to 200 yds.

I have several GI carbines and the prices of original ones keep going up. These are cute guns and fun to shoot. The problem is not the gun, but the cartridge. Except for plinking, shooting targets and possible self-defense applications, there is not a real need for a pistol cartridge that shoots a 110 grain bullet out of a carbine. All the best...

Does anyone know anything about these carbines? Are Kahr firearms any good?
I ask because there is one for sale on Gunbroker.

A friend of mine ordered one of the new Kahr (Auto Ordnance) M1 carbines. When he gets it we are going to try various loads in it - ball, softpoints, hollow softpoints, and varmint. I'll post the results here. adk

snowtigger,

I can't vouch for these carbines, since I didn't even know they existed until adk mentioned them. But I can tell you their pistols are excellent. In fact, compared to others I've handled and shot, I'd argue they are the best 9mm's and .40's manufactured today.

Have no experience with a Kahr/Auto Ord ones. Have loaded up 110 gr FMJ, JSPs, JHP, 100 Plinkers, and 55 gr .224 sabots. Have had no feed issues and the sabots rock. Never had the oppurtunity to really work the accurracy out of the sabots and don't know who currently makes or sells them.

It is straight GI looking, some GI parts it appears. Quality is high, so is the price, but it gives you a new high quality GI spec gun for the money. The only GI carbine I owned was an inland. Except for finish and better walnut, it looked and was built the same.

I believe that's the 5.56 Johnson Spitfire.

I had a M1 Carbine made by Quality Hardware. Fun little rifle. Ammo is cheap. And they are also great if you want to get your girlfirend or wife into shooting. No kick and just plain fun. Also make a good hose gun. Slap a M1A paratrooper stock on it, thirty round mag, and the mag pouch on the stock hold two 15rd mags. You have yourself there a nice home defense gun.
