Hello all, just found this forum and I'm in need of some troubleshooting assistance. I have a 94 that when loaded with more that 2 cartriges, allows the next to be released under the feed lever jamming the gun. I first thought that the lever with the catch would more than likely be it but it doesn't really look worn. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome! I'm not a model 94 guru but there's surely some folks here who can offer pointers. Definitely sounds like something isn't right!

I sure like that Sulphur area...
There is no doubt that you have a worn cartridge stop on your link. This is easy to replace. Winchester will sell you one from their web site.
If you are handy you can blacksmith yours. It does not take much work on the nose of the link to make it stop the cartridge for you.
I have one in a junk drawer somewhere I will take a picture for you. I have compared several links and they are all shaped different! I recently replaced the link on my .307 for the same reason. Make certain that you get the correct serial number range.

I have ordered lots of part from Numerich (Gun Parts Corp) and have allways been happy. In this case I would order from Winchester as then you would get the benifit from any new thoughts on contour.
You will see when you get the new one there is very little difference between a link that works and one that does not. When you get the new one installed work the nose of your old one over on a vice or pice of plate steel and you will have a spare.

William, I'm expecting to get the new link from Win. anyday now. Will I have to completely disassemble to replace? And... can you give me some idea of what I can do to the old one to have a spare?? Thanks in advance.

Yes, sort of. It takes me about twenty minutes to disassemble a Model 94 and I think I am pretty slow. All you have to do is pull the butt stock, take out the bolt and drop the link and lever. No need to fool with the trigger or magazine tube or forened. If you rifle is an old one or has been apart in the past you may want to start soaking your screws with penetrant now. Most people over tighten the screws and tear up the slots. Make certain you have screw drivers that fit reasonably well. good down pressure to break the screws loose the first time. If your gun has not been apart before it will be much easier.
Once you have the old link out and your new link then lets talk again about hammering on your old link.

My wife thought I should point out that the pin from the link on these modern Model 94's enters from the right side and is pushed out from the left. This looking at the top of the link. When you get the pin out you will see why.
Personaly I used a c-clamp and small steel pin to push it out but a close fitting drift punch will work fine. For putting the pin into the new link a c-clamp is pretty handy. This keeps you from having to beat on the link and pin. Any cheap 1" c-clamp would work fine for this.
okiehunter,
Do you know when your 94 was made by chance?
The link pin comes out differently on post-64s, they unscrew, pre-64s & post-1991s are a push pin with retaining screw.
You should not have to remove any thing but the link pin and link pin retaining screw if it has one, the finger lever pin, finger lever link pin (finger lever link screw if it's a pre-64). The locking bolt will fall off the link without removing the breech bolt, you do not have to remove the buttstock.
In short, you only have three pins to remove, to replace the link.
Knowing the terminology Winchester uses may be of help also; For pre-64s

For post-64s

DLS is of course correct, don’t know where my head was when I started typing. You do not have to take the butt stock off to remove the lever.
I should have asked your serial number before giving advice on replacing the link. On the modern M-94's the No. 69 Finger lever link pin has serrations that hold the pin firmly in place. You will have to drive it out of the No. 80 Link. Looking down from the top drive it from the left to the right. On the modern rifles there is also a small washer No. 70 that is an anti rattle spacer. Your rifle will work fine without it but it will have more play in the lever. Older rifles do not have this washer.
Slim,
What year is your Model 94? I haven't taken down a '94 newer than a 1992, serrated finger lever link pin, huh? Wish they would have reintroduced the finger lever link screw when they brought back the link pin retaining screw, makes it's much easier to replace the links.
Oops, forgot, do you have a web link to a diagram of the new 94s? I'm not familiar with the parts numbers you gave.

I just installed the new link with absolutely no problems. Wouldn't have been able to without you gents assistance. The gun is a Wrangler in 44rem. with the loop. Ser. # above 6mil. Approx. 8 yr. old, bought used. My next ques. now is what can I do to the old link to use as a spare if ever needed. Thanks again.

Horseman 1, I took the screw out that retains the finger lever pin. It is located on the left side and I think the closest to the top. I then pushed the pin out from the right side.
Luckyalaska, I live in Wewoka, OK and work in Holdenville and surrounding communities. My oldest son is attending East Central in Ada. How did you end up in Alaska? My wife has family in Ada also.

okiehunter: Thanks loads! I have been studying this thing and scratching my head for over a week. I figured it was something simple that I just didn't know. Once the secret was out it took about 15 minutes. I just overlooked it in the earlier part of the post. Thanks again.

Try www.e-gunparts.com, if the information isn't in the GuNuts.com page (look at the top of this forum).
Good luck!
