Last weekend I had a couple of wolves come into the yard at noon. My partner was painting upstairs and hollered at them. She ran through the house, grabbed the .22 and ran outside. One was just about to enter the open goat pen. She fired off a couple of rounds and yelled and they sauntered off into the woods. The goat had been tethered on the other side of the yard in deep grass.
It was obvious that these visitors had been in the yard before and knew the pen. For several days prior my dog was very interested in a particular path down the side of the yard each morning. They weren't too worried about either the human or the little gun.
In all my years around wolves I have never encountered ones so bold. This summer has been very hot (OK you guys from Texas can stop laughing now) and my creek is really low. However, there seems to be plenty of game available in the area.
Anyway, I loaded a shotgun with alternate Buckshot and Slugs but they have not returned that I have been aware of. I did check with Dept. of Fish and Game and they had caught 12 of 14 wolves known to be in the area to de-lice. 2 of the pack were never caught. This pack was one of three in the State to have been infested with lice.
