I have a 1894P Marlin, and I installed the 336 Fp Williams sights, as the Lyman would require drilling and tapping. I wanted a HiV front sight in green, but ended uo with a fire sight in Red. My problem is I can't get it on paper at 100. I decided to screw the elevation all the way down and work my way up. the screw(elevation) only will get you midway. Talked to their tech and got a confusing anwer. The sight sits on the scope sight holes, a longer screw is not going to engage the piece. The Tech stated that they would send a longer screw, but felt the problem was the front sights. Its their kit> Does any one know the correct size height for this piece?

When I did the calculations for my 18.5 inch barreled 1894C, it indicated I needed a front sight .406 inches tall from the base of the dovetail to the top of the bead. The 1894C has the front sight dovetailed into a riser block, not directly into the barrel. Here's an Excel spreadsheet I threw together for making front sight calculations:

I guess that I'm not sure if you are low or high at 100 yards? Any way you can get a green front fire sight from Williams. You have to call and ask them to do it. they will do it at no extra cost.

Backwoodsman magazine had an article a while back on how to find the right front sight height. You take off your front sight and replace it with a piece of iron wire, wrapped arount the barrel, twisted, and one end sticking up like a mouse's tail. Sight it in, cutting off 1/16" at a time, until it's right. Then measure the wire.

Haven't had occasion to try this myself, but it looks like it would work.

I had tried using a Red Fire Sight on my Marlin, but it was significantly higher than the factory bead. Therefore, when I tried to sight in the rifle, I found that I was shooting extremely LOW. I was able to move up my Williams 5-D sight to sight it in, but it was at the upper end of its range and I felt that it was not the best location for a sight on a hunting rifle.
I suspect that you are having the same problem, the replacement sight is causing you to shoot low.
I also checked a a couple of my Williams sights, and they do not use the full range of markings, as a general rule. That is, if you lower the elevation staff completely, you may find the indicator is showing somewhere in the middle of the hash marks.
Hopefully you are trying to sight in starting at a close range. Ten yards is not too close if you cannot find paper, and 25 yards is always a good starting point for a new sight. If you have left in the rear, open, sight, then that is also a good guide as to whether the new sight is causing you to shoot high or low.
Good luck.

I received the longer screw from Williams, and call there tech for the correct height of the sight in the ramp. He stated that it should be .460". If anyone is also having this problem the bottom of the sight where the longer screw goes into is not finished and must be tapped out. A real Ammos and Andy operation. I will be out to range thur and staple butcher paper on the board.
