Anyone ever consider re-barrelling a .454 Puma to a .410 GNR? Would it be as simple as a barrel change, or is there more to it? Sounds like it might be kind of interesting...if you are into that sort of thing.

Last year I spoke with Gary N. Reeder about the .410 GNR. It is the .44 Mag case necked down to .410". Sort of a .41 Mag Super. Mr. Reeder indicated that the cheapest way is to start with a .41 Mag, open the bolt face slightly, then simply rebore to .410 GNR. Most of his .410 GNR conversions are rebarreled .44 Mags. The .41 Mag has been so expensive the past few years, most of his customers opt to rebarrel a .44 mag and keep their .41 Mag as-is and not destroy its collectability.

I thought that the .410 GNR was based on the .454 case, not the 44 mag. I think that the 41 GNR is based on the 44 mag case necked down. Thats why I was thinking about using the .410 GNR in the Puma 454...same case, just necked down. I guees the benefits are lower recoil with the same sectional density bullets.

I'd be interested in seeing what velocity you could get out of a rifle barrel with this cartridge.

I'd say the best thing for you is to ask Reeder. Why not go to the source? Their price on rechambering those rounds are so reasonable, I wouldn't go anyplace else.
