Does anyone have experience with rifles made by CZ? I think i want a .223 and no one at the club has anything other than ARs and Mini 14s. I like bolt guns and the CZ tactical seems appealing on the net, and so does the hunter series of Savage. :D

Dear Tarheel Catfish -

I have been shooting a CZ in .308 for a couple of years and the bloody thing shoots almost as well as my custom SAKO .308 or my Winchester custom sniper rifle.

The factory single set trigger is a little rough - but it works just fine.

Of the .223 caliber rifles I've shot over the past fifteen years the SAVAGE has shined. I bought a "tactical", and although heavy with that little hole in the heavy barrel, I wouldn't part with it for money, marbles or chalk.

Using CHEAP reloaded ammo from Quality Ammunition it shoots under an inch for five rounds. Using my own handloads with selected match brass and heavier bullets of almost any manufacturer it shoots well under .50 inch. - 5 rounds.

In talking with John Barsness about his CZ in .416 Remington he is very fond of the rifle. It is perhaps the best value, dollar for dollar, of ANY whomper-stomper rifle currently available.

I had a CZ-550 in 6.5x55mm with a Mannlicher stock for a couple of years. It shot very well, better than me. Only complaint I could find was that the trigger was a little rough , somethig that could probably be fixed by a competant gunsmith. For the money, the CZ-550 is really top drawer.

This past Spring I purchased a CZ 527 American in .222 Rem to use as a "walking rifle" for woodchucks. I have been very impressed with its accuracy and quality. The instruction manual included instructions on how to adjust the trigger mechanism. I was able to get a nice clean break in the unset mode and very light pull in the set mode. First load I tried would put 5 Hornady 50 grain soft points in .75 inches at 100 yards; so I really haven't experimented with much else. I was impressed enough with it that I am going to order one of the varmint models in .204 Ruger as soon as my budget allows.

I had a cz-z600 in 30-06. It was a real shooter, sad to say I sold it to a nephew who had an eye on it. Got to keep the young shooters interested.

I've either owned, horsetraded, or bought and sold almost over 60 rifles in the past 2 years. I probably own about 20 at the moment and out of all the rifles I have owned in my entire life; my CZ 550 Mannlicher-stocked 7x57 is without a doubt my favorite all-time rifle. Accurate, beautifully stocked, reasonably priced and a time proven action don't begin to express the fondness I have for this rifle/caliber combination.
