6 or 7 years ago I bought 2 boxes of 100 (200 Total), of the Hornady #3010 110 gr .308 SpirePoints, I had planned to load them in my 30-06 for shooting groundhogs but never got around to loading them at all, I now have a 300 Win Mag and think maybe I will load them finally and use them on coyotes and fox.

Has anyone used these at all in a 300 Win Mag?
If so how did they work out?
Any tips or tricks in using them?

Thank You

I loaded some 130's in a 300 once. But using common powder charges for the 300 I couldnt get it to group. I was getting 32 and 3300fps out of it but was shooting 3 and 4in groups. I loaded it down to 308WIN powder charges before I started getting a real tight group. I already had a 308 so the load was meaningless for me to even continue with. But not all rifles shoot the same yours might like that light weight bullet, and its always fun to experiment. You've got the bullets and the gun give it a try!

I still got the 30-06 also, so maybe I will play with them both till I get good groups with both of them, then if I use them on ground hogs at all I can take both and change back and forth between the 2 to give them time to cool down between shots ( I am pretty sure that with the 110 gr the barrel will get just as hot just as fast if not faster then the 165 gr).

Years ago I was fascinated by a shooter at the range with a Ruger No1 that was literally belching a fireball at each shot. Questioning revealed he was launching a 110gr Spire-point at something approaching 3700fps from a 300WinMag, reckoned it was the best pig stopper he'd ever used. I thought he was crazy until I ran into a guy doing the same but from an 8mm Remington Magnum, he shot the Hornady 125gr at some stratospheric speed and reckoned he'd literally flattened every pig (and a deer) he'd fired at. So... load them up and have a try, you might be surprised at what you discover.
Cheers...

I once loaded up some or those 110 grain bullets back in the late 70's for a 300 Win mag! I could never get them to shoot very well at 100 yards. The best group I got was a hair over 2.5 inches. They shot very fast and would blow up on contact with a hitting a weed or blade of grass.
